Dear Colleagues:
In behalf of the IEOM Society, I would like to give an update of the IEOM
2014 Conference which was held at Grand Hyatt Hotel Resort in Bali,
Indonesia. With 68 countries represented at this year's IEOM with more than
400 participants, it was truly a global experience in diversity and
exceptional networking. The exchange of ideas and varied experiences
provided an exceptional opportunity for all of our attendees.
Our keynote speakers provided very powerful messages for industrial
engineering and operations management profession. We selected opening
keynote speaker from USA with past IIE president, Indonesian academic,
director of Toyota Motor Company of Indonesia, last mile urban logistics
from executive director of the logistics institute of Asia-pacific,
legendary innovative experience from former present of Australian
manufacturing society and Nordic faculty. These speakers representative a
global perspective. Each brought thought provoking messages as well as a
focus on opportunities and challenges of the IE profession.
One of the highlight this year's IEOM was the *Awards* *Dinner* in the
Grand Hyatt Bali Ballroom. The entertaining and unique Balinese
performances and music was exceptional. Individual attendees from all over
the world were recognized for education, service support and research
contribution s. The comments from the distinguished speakers have set the
tone for future of IEOM. Dr. Musselman's message challenged us, an
unbelievable networking opportunity with representatives from 68
countries, *Dr.
Bharadvaj, Managing Director of Boeing Research & Technology-India* has
commented about half of UN being represented at our conference.
*Opening keynote from Dr. Kenneth Musselman* of Purdue University was
superb! His dynamic, enlightening, and thought provoking remarks gave all
of us so much to think about as industrial engineers and operational
managers. He charged each of us has a responsibility to take the
appropriate action to make a difference in addressing at least one
challenge that was raised by Dr. Musselman with emphasize on "*which one
will you do?".*
Dr.* Nyoman Pujawan* of Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS), Indonesia
has provided a remarkable keynote speech on "Dealing with Uncertainty in
Transportation and Distribution" with special emphasize on complex
transportation issue in Indonesia (over 17.000 islands, 3 time zones,
population +230 million, West-East imbalance).
Mr. *Made Dana Tangkas*, Director of Toyota Motor Manufacturing - Indonesia
shared his lifelong experiences with Toyota for his keynote address. His
presentation included the lean enterprise for their key strategy to
business and industry competitiveness. The Q&A was an outstanding and
included the hidden stories of Toyota success and failures from learning.
It was a truly an exceptional learning experience for all of us.
Dr. *Robert de Souza's* delivery style and message could not have been
better. He spoke about the Innovative Urban Logistics (last-mile logistics)
and Supply Chain with Challenges and Opportunities in Asia for the keynote
speech. The challenges of Singapore's Urban with Logistics Land Use
Limitation, Transportation Use Limitation, Labor Use Limitation and
Externality were presented. The problems discussed, were in most instances
were unique to Singapore. Examples the Singapore log were also discussed. His
Q&A session added significant value to his presentation and to the
attendees.
Dr. *John* *Blakemore* from Australia brought an overview of his lifelong
journey to foster creativity and innovation in the keynote presentation.
His many years of experience as an independent consultant, lecturer and
author provided an engaging and thought provoking presentation and Q&A
discussion.
Dr. *Petri* *Helo* from Europe engaged us with an excellent presentation on
the challenges business face in today's complex technological change. The
integration of systems and operational logistical challenges provided the
foundation of his remarks.

The 2015 IEOM will be held in Dubai, March 3-5, 2015 at Hyatt Regency
Dubai. The submission are open for papers and abstracts:
https://www.xcdsystem.com/ieom2015/. A call for papers is attached for IEOM
2015 Dubai.
We will continue with global engineering education and new dedicated
session of IEOM Industry Solutions. Senior design project and undergraduate
research poster competition will be added along with student paper
competition and poster competition.
