UPS-SOLA DISSERTATION AWARD
Call for Submissions
The INFORMS Section on Location Analysis (SOLA) announces the bi-annual
“UPS-SOLA Dissertation Award” given to the best dissertation in the area
of Location Analysis. Dissertation eligibility is as follows:
(a) Written in English
(b) Completed between July 1, 2005 and June 30, 2007
(c) Location analysis and/or theory should be a primary focus, i.e., the
dissertation contains a significant location science component from
problem domain and/or methodology perspectives.
Completed dissertations from all disciplines—including management
science, industrial engineering, transportation science, geography and
economics—will be considered. Applicants are required to submit a
dissertation package including the following as a single PDF file:
(1) a cover letter stating the name of their supervisor(s)
(2) a letter from their supervisor supporting their submission
(3) a two-page summary of their dissertation research
(4) a copy of the dissertation.
Complete packages should be submitted via e-mail no later than July 15,
2007 to Dr. Halit Uster (uster at tamu.edu), Chair, UPS-SOLA Dissertation
Award.
Courtesy of United Parcel Service (UPS), cash prizes will be awarded to
the winner (and, if the committee so decides, runners-up). The
dissertation packages will be judged by a panel of distinguished
location scientists. Competition results and awards will be announced at
the INFORMS 2007 Conference in Seattle, WA.
The UPS-SOLA Dissertation Award Committee Members are Halit Uster
(Chair), James Campbell, Yupo Chan and Tim Lowe. Questions regarding
