Hi all,

There will be an REU colloquium today in M101 at 2:30. Our speaker
will be Mohammed Tesemma from Spellman college. Title and abstract

Speaker: Mohammed Tesemma (Spellman College)

Title: Gröbner bases for ideals with applications to graph theory

Abstract: We will start with definition of polynomial rings and ideals
accompanied by examples. We then introduce the concept of monomial
order and define Gröbner basis for ideals. Gröbner basis is an
important tool in modern computational commutative algebra.

In this talk we will apply Gröbner basis theory to a well known graph
theory problem, “the three color problem”. Examples will be given
along the way.
