CUPD:  Thefts continue on campus

After reports of additional petty thefts on campus this week, Clemson
University police are urging everyone to take special precautions to
safeguard personal belongings.

Purses were rummaged through and wallets stolen from Brackett and
Sikes halls and the Biosystems Research Complex. In another incident,
an individual was confronted in Redfern Health Center going through a
purse and ran from the building before police arrived.

Police remind all faculty, staff and students to:

Secure valuable, easily portable belongings in locked drawers or cabinets
Carry only small amounts of cash in your wallet or purse
Lock offices and residence hall rooms anytime you are away
Report anyone exhibiting suspicious behavior in or near buildings around campus

Chief Johnson Link suggests offering assistance if you notice
unfamiliar individuals in your building or office suite.

“If they have a legitimate reason for being there, they will
appreciate your friendliness,” he said. “If they were looking for
valuables, your actions might prevent another campus theft.”

If you see anyone who looks suspicious or if you have information
about these thefts, call the Clemson University police at 656-2222.
