Subject: Undergrad Math Day (U of Dayton) Sat 3 Nov 2007

Hello!

I am writing to inform you of Undergraduate Mathematics Day, an
undergraduate mathematics conference to be held at the University of Dayton
on Saturday, November 3, 2007. We invite papers from undergraduate and
graduate students on all aspects of creating, learning, teaching
mathematics. Talks about students' research from REUs will be very
welcome. PRESENTERS WILL BE INVITED TO SUBMIT THEIR PAPERS TO A REFEREED
ELECTRONIC PROCEEDINGS OF THIS CONFERENCE. This is the third in a sequence
of biennial conferences. In view of Euler's 300th birthday this year, one
of our two plenary speakers is Bill Dunham (author of, among other books,
"Journey through Genius" and "Euler: The Master of us all"). Details, and
links to the first two volumes of the Proceedings, can be found at the
conference website,
http://academic.udayton.edu/MathEvents/Fall07/index.htm

Perhaps you are wondering why I would write to you when your REU is not
particularly close to our school. For our past two conferences, we had
some students attend from states far from Ohio, for several reasons. Some
students had family or friends in our area, and they combined their
visiting with the conference. Some faculty think highly of our
conference, and bring students from several states away. Some students
from other states make friends (at REUs, say) with students who attend
nearby institutions -- they decide to visit these friends, and give talks
at our conference. One year, students from an REU decided they'd have a
"reunion" at our conference!

So, please may I request you to send this information to your REU students
from this summer. (I am fine with you forwarding this message.)

Thank you for your help.
