Dear REU Director,
You are listed as an NSF-REU director for 2005. We'd like to inform you of
an opportunity for your students to present the results of their research
at an undergraduate mathematics conference, Undergraduate Mathematics Day,
to be held on November 5, 2005, at the University of Dayton.
Although we realize that your REU is not in our geographical area, the
participants of your REU may be from the Dayton area or from southwest
Ohio, or may have friends or family in the area (and could combine a
professional conference with a visit). We will accept research and
expository talks from undergraduates. There is no registration fee.
Details can be found at
http://academic.udayton.edu/MathEvents/Fall05/index.htm. Also, all
presenters will have the opportunity of publishing their papers in the
refereed proceedings of this conference. The Electronic Proceedings of
Undergraduate Mathematics Day for 2003 (ISSN 1548-2286) can be found at
http://www.udayton.edu/~mathdept/EPUMD/EPMUD.htm. As you are well aware,
students get a tremendous boost from attending and presenting at
professional conferences.
The conference is funded, in part, by NSF grant DMS-0241090. Other such
conferences are listed at the MAA website (http://www.maa.org/rumc/) and
your REU participants may wish to check those out to find one nearer them.
We hope you will convey the contents of this message to the participants of
your REU.
Thank you for your consideration.
