Tenure-Track Faculty Position
Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering

POSITION: Wayne State University's Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is actively seeking candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level. This position's primary focus lies in the domains of Design, Planning, Operations, and Control, particularly within the context of Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing Systems. We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to our department's overarching vision, which revolves around the realization of interconnected and autonomous manufacturing systems that will shape the future of industry. While we welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, we have a particular interest in individuals whose expertise aligns with areas such as digital twins, cloud manufacturing, industrial cyber-physical systems, collaborative robotics, human-in-the-loop systems, blockchain, industrial internet-of-things and connectivity, extended reality, and industrial analytics.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: We seek an outstanding scholar with a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related areas. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong publication record, experience in teaching and mentoring students, and a strong commitment to scholarly collaboration with faculty within the college and university.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The ideal candidate must have the ability to: a) develop and maintain a productive research program, including external funding; b) establish a cutting-edge laboratory; c) supervise the thesis and dissertation research of graduate students; d) teach undergraduate and graduate courses; and e) contribute to college and university service activities.
DEPARTMENT: Our Industrial & Systems Engineering Department comprises 17 faculty members with expertise in Smart Manufacturing, Product Design, Big Data Analytics, Cyber-Physical Systems, Autonomous Systems, Operations Research, Quality, and Reliability Engineering. We actively collaborate with automotive, manufacturing, defense, energy, and business communities. The department secures about $2M in external funding annually, boasts 40+ Ph.D. students, 115 master's students, and 40 undergraduate majors.
