Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor in Industrial Engineering

Position Description
The Department of Industrial Engineering in the J. B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville (UofL) seeks candidates for a Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor (renewable term non-tenurable position) starting Fall 2024. This is a calendar year (12-month) appointment on a 3-year contract.

The position is career-oriented and teaching-focused, with the opportunity for future multi-year renewals and promotions in rank. Teaching and administrative duties for this position's annual workplan would be negotiated with the department chair on an annual basis based on department needs and will include 2 Summer courses. Moreover, because this position emphasizes teaching, the ideal candidate should be comfortable with teaching a wide variety of on-campus and online courses in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management programs, teaching summer courses, and developing online courses (with help of the UofL Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning).

Outstanding candidates may be considered for an administrative role for one of our programs, described below. The candidate is also expected to fulfill service to the Department, College, or University (e.g., student chapter advising, organizing seminars, industry engagement, committee participation, and other evolving needs).

Qualifications
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in Industrial Engineering or a closely related field. Applicants with demonstrated experience of exceptional teaching abilities and a dedication to student success will be given preference. This position also requires strong communication skills, solid administrative abilities, unassailable personal and academic integrity, and a focus on openness and transparency.

Department Information
The Department of Industrial Engineering (IE) has been a degree granting department since the late 1970s. It is ranked #2 in the Speed School in terms of total online graduate student enrollment and #3 in terms total student enrollment. The department has 10 tenured or tenure-track faculty, and two term faculty. It offers several on-campus and online programs. The on-campus programs include ABET-accredited BS program, along with MS and PhD degrees in Industrial Engineering. The online programs include MS in Industrial Engineering and MEng in Engineering Management. Additionally, the department offers an Accelerated BSIE+MSIE and BSIE+MEngEM, and an MEng degree in Engineering Management in Panama (MEngEMP).
Three graduate certificates in Six Sigma, Healthcare Systems Engineering, and Engineering Logistics have been introduced in the past 2 years, along with a newly planned certificate in Data Analytics.
Department's research thrusts are in operations research and decision analytics, human factors and ergonomics, advanced manufacturing, and engineering education. Faculty research has been supported by a variety of federal grants and industry contracts (e.g., NSF, DoD, ONR, NIST, NASA, FHWA, Toyota, GE Appliances/Haier).
