The School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) at Oregon State University invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Research Associate position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head.
This Research Associate will be part of a multi-institution team working to develop an online, robust, and distributed system (an open product marketplace) for product manufacturers to ensure a functioning supply market for current and future pandemic response. The candidate is expected work as an integral part of the team to develop underlying algorithms which can aid in:
(1) concurrently pairing product and manufacturing information to willing manufacturers in the supply to fulfill consumer demands;
(2) onboarding consumers and manufacturers to the marketplace; and
(3) supporting decision making.
The developed online marketplace will be able to optimize supply chains and facilitate knowledge sharing to aid consumers and manufacturers in decision-making. In addition to contributing to its development, the Research Associate will support the research team in demonstrating the value of the developed online tool using real-world cases and student-devised business-to-consumer use cases, as well as leading and contributing to publications, reports, and presentations on the work and mentoring of students involved in the project.
MIME comprises over 60 academic faculty and instructors, 20 professional faculty, staff and research associates who support nearly 2000 undergraduate and graduate students. MIME offers undergraduate degrees in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The School of MIME houses a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative group of faculty and staff in Advanced Manufacturing pursuing the broad areas of automation, sensor fusion, smart and sustainable manufacturing, precision manufacturing, materials science, and computational modeling.
The OSU College of Engineering is committed to being recognized as a national model of inclusivity and collaboration. We strive to develop a community of faculty, students, and staff that is inclusive, collaborative, diverse and centered on student success. As such, we seek applicants who will broaden our capacity to advance student success across individual identities, racial/ethnic categories and socioeconomic backgrounds.
