Colleagues,
Ben Amaba (IBM), Tiffany Sargent (Intel) and I are attempting to put together a "systems engineering" track for the annual conference next year (New Orleans). Our intent is to have a track that focuses on the "systems" issues that create challenges in designing, managing and controlling large scale, multi-disciplinary, multi-technology systems. While applications of IE/OR methodologies and analysis of course have value in such systems, we are trying to uncover and expose those challenges that are not so well-addressed by today's theory, methods and tools, but are clearly within the ISE domain. Some examples might include: design trade-offs when making one logistics or production subsystem better makes another one worse; "single source of truth" for different analysis methodologies (optimization vs simulation, e.g.) supporting system design; automated operations management for "smart factories"; and other similar issues.

If this is of interest to you, please email me at leon.mcginnis at isye.gatech.edu. Feel free to forward this to colleagues that you think might be interested but are not on the iefac.list.

Thanks very much,
--Leon
