DESCRIPTION
The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) in the College of Engineering (COE) invites applications for a tenure-line faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Desirable candidates should have displayed evidence of sustained research in the field of healthcare operations management and/or health policy with a requirement that candidates have extensive experience and enduring interest in developing system-theoretic modeling tools and methodologies pertaining to substance abuse and addiction. This position is part of The Pennsylvania State University's recently launched Consortium to Combat Substance Abuse (CCSA); https://CombatSubstanceAbuse.ssri.psu.edu and will be co-funded by the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI). This Consortium seeks colleagues with interests and expertise that align with research aimed at illuminating pathways to addiction and its cascading impacts, including on communities, families and the criminal justice system. Expertise in translating knowledge about these complex systems problems to impact, including though evidence-based programs, policies, practices and projects, is also a priority. The successful applicant will have the opportunity for a leadership role in the Consortium for Combating Substance Abuse (CCSA). Desirable candidates in IME are expected to be motivated by diverse challenges, from the macro to micro levels, in this broad problem area with an interdisciplinary orientation to research collaborations around the social and behavioral determinants of health. The successful applicant is expected to be a leader in their program of research with demonstrated impact such as on policy or practice, a stellar publication record, and a record of being able to develop and sustain a robust and expansive research program. Responsibilities include directing a research program focusing on substance abuse and teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or closely related area prior to the start date, and have continued outstanding scholarly accomplishments. In addition, faculty associated with the CCSA will have access to research infrastructure in Penn State's cross-university research institutes, including the SSRI www.ssri.psu.edu; the Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute, http://ctsi.psu.edu/; and the Institute for CyberScience (ICS), https://ics.psu.edu. The Harold and Inge Marcus department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering is the first industrial engineering department founded in the world and is consistently ranked in the top ten for both its graduate and undergraduate programs. To apply, interested applicants should submit a letter of application, statements of research and teaching interests, a curriculum vitae, at least three letters of recommendation, and up to 5 selected publications (e.g., reprints, preprints) on the psu.jobs website. Application screening will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Questions can be directed to Uday V. Shanbhag (udaybag at psu.edu, IME).
