*The Watson Institute for Systems Excellence (WISE), an Institute for

would be with the Research Foundation at Binghamton, New York. The Research

sponsored programs administration and innovation support services to SUNY
faculty and students performing research in areas including life sciences

WISE is a research-intensive multidisciplinary organization that works in a
collaborative manner with several industrial partners including IBM,
Google, Innovation Associates, Analog Devices, United Health Services,
Mount Sinai Health System, Albany Medical Center, LiveOnNY, Cooper Health,
and Montefiore Medical Center. With over 80 graduate students (MS and PhD)
and several research faculty and staff members, WISE is a dynamic
customer-driven student-centered organization. On average, WISE is awarded
$2.5-3.0 million in research grants a year. The Research Scientist we are
looking to hire interacts with faculty, staff, students, industry, campus
entities, and variety of stakeholders in our research mission.



Reporting to and working closely with the WISE Director, Associate
Director, Assistant Directors, and faculty, the Research Scientist
primarily assists faculty on sponsored research projects in applied
operations research/optimization and/or data science/mining/analytics with
special focus in domains such as health systems (preferred area of
interest) and manufacturing/enterprise systems. The Research Scientist is
also expected to: 1) Write proposals to seek grants from federal and state
agencies, and to industry to expand the breadth and depth of current
research activities; 2) Mentor and advise graduate research associates; 3)
Publish research findings in leading peer-reviewed journals and at
high-impact conferences; 4) Work effectively with faculty, staff and
graduate research associates, as well as with diverse teams; 5)
Conceptualize, plan, and execute projects; 6) Make independent judgments,
not only in project conceptualization and planning, but also in proposal
submission, project design, identifying time lines, milestones, and due
dates; 7) Prepare and present research-project related findings to
healthcare and other industry sponsors, faculty, and staff. Systematically
document progress in research projects through technical reports and
presentations; 8) Identify new areas of inquiry which would be in-line with
WISE's mission and could garner external support; and 9) Work on other
related projects as assigned.



The applicant must possess (i) a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or a
related field by the appointment date; a Bachelor's degree in Engineering
is required and (ii) in-depth knowledge of domains such as health systems
engineering and manufacturing/enterprise systems, with special focus on
methodologies such as applied operations research/optimization, simulation
and modeling, and data mining/analytics. Experience in academia, and/or in
an industrial/manufacturing setting, and/or in healthcare systems, having
planned, executed, and have completed research endeavors. The candidate
most also demonstrate excellent programming, verbal, and written
communication skills. In addition, the candidate must possess the ability
to concurrently work on multiple projects with minimal oversight.
