in the last two years. The oldest university in California, SJSU has a

Qualifications:

   - A Ph.D. in Psychology or related field from an accredited university
   by start of appointment.
   - Specialization within human factors, with preference given to
   candidates with a background in cognitive psychology, engineering
   psychology, and/or mathematical modeling of psychological processes
   - Applicants should have awareness of and sensitivity to educational
   goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in
   cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
   - Commitment to, and demonstrated potential for, teaching excellence
   - Dedication and interest in mentoring students, including first
   generation and second language undergraduates and graduate students
   - Research potential, demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications
   and presentations
   - Commitment to seeking external funding to support research-related
   activities and/or to enhance student learning
   - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
   - Ability to work effectively in a collegial atmosphere of shared
   governance

Responsibilities:

San José State University is a teaching institution that values mentored
research. Teaching responsibilities for this position include undergraduate
and/or graduate courses in human factors, research methods, and statistics,
as well as cognition, perception, or writing as needed by the department.
The candidate must maintain a productive research program, which may
consist of collaborative research across the University. The successful
applicant should be prepared to take an active role in the Department’s
Masters of Arts in Research and Experimental Psychology program as a mentor
and advisor, instructor, and member of the program committee. The candidate
will participate in service through membership on department, college, and
university committees, and through the academic advising of students.
Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity
– in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic
preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

Salary Range:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: August 22, 2016

Eligibility:  Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in
the United States.

The Department of Psychology at San José State serves over 1300 majors with
a dedicated full- and part-time faculty from all areas of psychology. The
Department maintains a variety of facilities and support staff to enhance
instruction and human research. For the past 30 years, the Department has
partnered with the Human Systems Integration Division at the *NASA Ames
Research Center* to engage in collaborative aerospace human factors
research. The Department is also a partner in an interdisciplinary MS
degree in Human Factors with emphases in user experience, human-computer
interaction, cognitive psychology, and the emerging field of medical human
factors. The Department recently developed a minor in human systems
integration to provide undergraduate education in human factors.
Additionally, San José State University is home to the *Silicon Valley Big
Data and Cybersecurity Center* and is a partner in the NSF-funded
national *Center
for Science and Technology for Research in Ubiquitous Secure
Technology* (TRUST)
at UC Berkeley. The successful applicant would be invited to contribute
human factors expertise to our interdisciplinary cybersecurity group,
particularly in areas such as usability, human error, situation awareness,
authentication, visualization of large datasets, user motivations and
organizational cultures, or other related topics.
