2015 Material Handling Teachers Institute and Future Faculty Symposium
July 13-17, 2015

This week-long program is specifically for current and future educators with interest in teaching material handling, logistics and supply chain operations. This year's Material Handling Teachers Institute (MHTI) will also feature for the first time a Future Faculty Symposium aimed at PhD students wanting to pursue teaching careers in this area.

The program will include talks, activities and tours focused on:

*         Introductory concepts in material handling, facility design, logistics and supply chain operations

*         Teaching methods, references and tools (use of industry case studies/tours, multi-media, classroom techniques, team activities)

*         New concepts and emerging areas of interest to industry and the research community

*         Doctoral student development (faculty careers and teaching).

MHTI is designed for faculty of all levels of experience who are directly involved in the teaching of material handling, facilities design/layout/logistics, operations, and supply chain courses. MHTI promotes better teaching to both graduate and undergraduate levels by providing a wide range of industry and academic presentations, plant and lab tours. It is also an opportunity to interact with colleagues to share course designs, teaching methods, case studies, textbooks, software and more.

*             Kimberly Ellis, Virgina Tech                                            *           William Ferrell, Clemson University
*             Larry Sweet, Symbotic, MA                                           *           Young Jun Son, University of Arizona

Tours to multiple manufacturing facilities and distributions centers including:

*             Target Distribution Center                                                               *             American Girl Distribution Center
*             Harley-Davidson Powertrain Operations                                  *             Electronic Theatre Controls

MHTI is sponsored by the College Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE) through support provided by Material Handling Industry (MHI). The on-site expenses of all attendees will be paid. These paid expenses will include hotel (if room is shared with another participant, otherwise half of room is paid), meals, on-site transportation, and all planned tours and social events.  Attendees are required to pay their own airfare and transportation to the hotel, as well as the expenses of a spouse or any accompanying guests.
