Dear colleagues,

Please share this opportunity with any potential candidates. We are seeking exceptional post-doctoral fellowship candidates for multiple openings in the Healthcare Systems Engineering Institute at Northeastern University in the areas of human factors, systems engineering, or operations research.

Further information is attached and below. Interested candidates also can talk with colleagues or I at the INFORMS conference in San Francisco next week.

Applicants are particularly sought in human factors, patient safety, and usability to support research projects in a new patient safety center, but also will be considered in any area of industrial engineering, statistics, and operations research. We also invite applicants for visiting, sabbatical, and summer faculty in these areas.

Best regards,
Jim Benneyan

Healthcare Systems Engineering Institute
Northeastern University, Boston MA

The Healthcare Systems Engineering Institute (HSyE) at Northeastern University is seeking exceptional post-doctoral fellowship candidates for multiple immediate and future openings in the areas of human factors, systems engineering, or operations research. Successful applicants will support research projects through HSyE's four federally-funded healthcare centers, R01 grants, and contracts through the National Science Foundation, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, National Institutes for Health, Center for Disease Control, and Veterans Health Administration. Applicants are particularly sought in human factors, patient safety, and usability but also will be considered in any area of industrial engineering, statistics, and operations research. We also invite applicants for visiting, sabbatical, and summer faculty in these areas.

We work with dozens of leading health systems and researchers across the U.S. on a large variety of problems - spanning the spectrum of healthcare contexts and methods - to improve healthcare efficiency, quality, safety, flow, effectiveness, access, and treatment. Post-docs participate in a formal career development and mentoring program that includes independent research, applied technical projects, project supervision, teaching or student mentoring, publication, and grant seeking. Other general responsibilities include:

* Initiating, managing, and completing applied and theoretic research projects
* Preparing research papers, grant proposals, external reports, presentations
* Mentoring student research and projects
* Assisting in healthcare systems/industrial engineering courses
* General ad hoc needs of the centers and institute

Northeastern is located in the heart of Boston among the nation's best health systems, renowned research institutions, and historical and cultural landmarks, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, and numerous theaters. New York City, Cape Cod, and the coast of Maine are all within a 2-to-4 hour drive. The university is experiencing an unprecedented rise in the US News and World Report's national research university rankings and is an inaugural member of the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center world-class academic research computing facility.

Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis and should have a PhD or equivalent, be capable of undertaking significant scholarship, and be able to work both independently and under the supervision of a senior scholar.
