Healthcare Systems Engineering Institute
Northeastern University
Post-Doctoral Fellowship Openings
Talented and motivated applicants are invited to apply for post-doctoral
research fellowships in the Healthcare Systems Engineering (HSyE) Institute
at Northeastern University to support research and applied technical
projects as part of a national healthcare industrial and systems engineering
(ISyE) large-scale demonstration project funded by the Medicare and Medicaid
Innovation Center.
Applicants should have strong backgrounds in industrial engineering,
statistics, operations research, or related fields. Northeastern's
Healthcare Systems Engineering Institute exists within the Colleges of
Engineering and Health Sciences and includes three federally-funded
healthcare centers, formal and experiential education programs, and a staff
of roughly 50 engineers, faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and
post-docs. The mission of the institute is to broadly impact healthcare
improvement nationally through education, research, and application in
systems engineering methods. The institute works with health systems across
New England and the United States on problems to improve healthcare
efficiency, quality, safety, flow, effectiveness, access, and treatment.
As part of this work, numerous projects and research opportunities exist
within a new $8 million healthcare ISyE grant from CMS (Center for
Healthcare Systems Engineering), a National Science Foundation healthcare
multi-university center (Center for Health Organization Transformation), and
related research grants.
Within this context, HSyE post-docs work on a variety of projects and
problems spanning the spectrum of healthcare contexts and technical methods
and participate in a customized career development and mentoring program
including some combination of independent research, applied technical
projects, manuscript publication, project supervision, and teaching or
student mentoring. Other general responsibilities include:
. Initiating, managing, and completing applied and theoretic research
projects
. Preparing research papers, grant proposals, external reports,
presentations
. Mentoring student research and projects
. Assisting in healthcare systems/industrial engineering courses
. General ad hoc needs of the centers and institute
Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis, with most post-docs being
for one or two-year positions. Applicants must have a PhD degree or the
equivalent, capable of undertaking significant scholarship, and expected to
work both independently and under the supervision and direction of a senior
scholar.
To be considered please apply online at neu.peopleadmin.com/postings/22432
and submit via email to hsye at coe.neu.edu a current resume, course
transcripts, statement of purpose, and contact information for three
