The Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech
invites applications for three (3) tenured/tenure-track positions starting
in the 2013-2014 academic year. The three positions are:
1. *Advanced manu**factu**ring systems* *and technologies* (posting
number *0122400*). Appointments at all ranks will be considered. For
particularly well-established full-professor candidates, an Endowed
Professorship may be available. Applicants should have achieved, or show
potential to develop, a strong program of research and scholarship. The
position requires a Ph.D. degree, with at least one degree in industrial
engineering or a closely-related field. The successful applicant will be
expected to take a leading role working with the Commonwealth Center for
Advanced Manufacturing, a new research center developed in conjunction with
Rolls-Royce, the Commonwealth of Virginia, university partners around the

2. *Human factors engineering and ergonomics* (posting number* 0122386
*). Appointments may be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank.
For this faculty position, research, advising, and teaching capabilities
that encompass one or more of the following specialty areas are sought:
cognitive ergonomics, cognitive engineering, and usability engineering.
Preference is for individuals who have applied expertise, including systems
design and/or evaluation. Successful applicants are expected to develop a
strong program of research and scholarship, and provide skilled teaching at
both undergraduate and graduate levels. The position requires a Ph.D.
degree, with at least one degree in human factors engineering, ergonomics,
industrial engineering, systems engineering, or a closely-aligned
discipline. Candidates in the final stages of their doctoral study are
encouraged to apply.
3. *Management Systems Engineering *(posting number *0122393*).
Appointment will be at the assistant professor level. Management Systems
Engineering is concerned with the design and implementation of complex
management systems. Example focus areas include complex socio-technical
management systems, enterprise transformation, lean work systems,
management decision and learning support systems, organizational and
process improvement, performance measurement and business analytics, new
product development, and other common engineering management topics.
Research application areas may include diverse domains (e.g.,
manufacturing, healthcare, security, and energy). Successful candidates
will develop a strong program of funded research and high-impact
scholarship and will be committed to excellence in teaching undergraduate
and graduate courses in the Management Systems Engineering area. The
candidate must have obtained, or expect to obtain shortly, a Ph.D. degree,
with at least one degree in industrial engineering, engineering management,
systems engineering, or a related field.
