Resent with corrected typos in the previous email; thanks!

Dear Colleagues,

As many of you may already know, Purdue School of Industrial Engineering began the series of Gavriel Salvendy International Symposia on Frontiers in Industrial Engineering (GSIS-FIE) in 2010. The first time it focused on Cultural Factors in Decision Making and Action, and the participants delivered a white paper research agenda, and a book: https://engineering.purdue.edu/IE/AboutUs/TGSIS/CFIDMAA

We are now preparing for the 2nd Gavriel Salvendy Symposium on May 4-5, 2012, this time focusing on frontiers in IE with Laser and Photonic Systems and innovations for Better Quality of Life. (Note that in 2010-11, LaserFest celebrated 50 years of laser innovations; as such, we feel examining the possibilities of the next 50 years is quite appropriate.)

Sessions and panels will address manufacturing, healthcare, communication, and security. Leading experts in both IE and lasers/photonics have agreed to join, stimulate discussions and brainstorm the concerns and opportunities for innovations and evolution of IE to solve grand challenge problems.

You are cordially invited to join us and take part in this exciting event. Further details are included in the attached brochure; the planned GSIS-FIE schedule overview is shown below.

Sincerely,

Shimon Nof on behalf of the organizing committees
