The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) invites
applications for the position of the Director of an institute for
interdisciplinary and quantitative Finance.

Established in 1991, HKUST is a research-intensive university dedicated to
the advancement of learning and scholarship, with special emphasis on
postgraduate education, and close collaboration with business and industry.
The four Schools, Science <http://science.ust.hk/>,
Engineering<http://www.seng.ust.hk/>,
Business & Management <http://www.bm.ust.hk/>, and Humanities & Social
Science <http://www.shss.ust.hk/> offer a wide array of academic programs.
Despite its relatively short history, HKUST has been repeatedly ranked top
in the region and in the world.  It is ranked No 1 in Asia-Pacific according
to the QS Asian University Rankings, No 1 in the world for the Kellogg-HKUST
EMBA, No 6 for the MBA, No. 22 in engineering and technology and among the
top 25 for the finance research. We will continue to establish a multi-prong
approach to foster research excellence within and across disciplines, extend
our research base beyond Hong Kong through formation of international
alliances, and capitalizing on our presence in Mainland China.

Contributing to China’s financial internationalization and Hong Kong's role
as a leading international finance center, HKUST is going to establish a
cross-school Institute to encourage interdisciplinary research in
finance. The Institute emphasizes the application of quantitative tools to
solve problems in the financial markets, especially in the Greater China
region. As the Institute will have a primary focus on the study of finance
from a quantitative perspective, besides finance faculty members, faculty
from the fields of computer science, economics, statistics, engineering,
mathematics and operations research will be actively involved.



We are seeking a leading expert/reputable academic who can advance the
mission of the Institute and provide leadership to promote the various
activities such as interdisciplinary research collaboration, collaboration
with the industry, MSc program, and internship/job placement for the
postgraduates.



We invite applications from candidates who have:

–       Strong academic credentials in both financial economics and
quantitative finance;

–       A high commitment and interest level to outreach the real world;

–       Regional knowledge about China and experiences in academia-industry
collaboration will be an advantage;

–       An excellent record of scholarship eligible for a senior appointment
at Full Professor level.**
