Dear Colleague:
The 8th International Workshop on Piezoelectric Materials and Applications (IWPMA), 6th Annual Energy Harvesting Workshop, and 3rd Annual CIMSS Conference will be held in Roanoke, Virginia, USA from August 7-11, 2011. It will be a major forum for the exchange of ideas and discussion on recent developments in the area of smart materials and their applications with focus on energy and bio-inspiration. The audience will constitute a good mix of academia, industry, and federal laboratory. We invite you to participate in this important event. Abstract submission is now available for IWPMA and the 6th Annual Energy Harvesting Workshop. For more information on how to submit an abstract and abstract topics for each forum, please visit http://www.cpe.vt.edu/ehw <http://nl.cpe.vt.edu/inc/rdr.asp?191120___1121615346___http://www.cpe.vt.edu/ehw/index.html> .
The International Workshop on Piezoelectric Materials and Applications in Actuators (IWPMA) was first held in Korea Institute of Science & Technology (KIST), Seoul, Korea in 2004. After that, 2nd to 5th IWPMA were held in successive years in University of Paderborn in Germany (2005), Anadolu University in Turkey (2006), Nanjing University of Aerospace & Astronautics in China (2007), and Pennsylvania State University in United States (2008), respectively. The 6th IWPMA was held on the beautiful Jeju island of Korea, November 9 - 11, 2009, completing the full circle. The 7th IWPMA is scheduled to be held from October 10 - 13, 2010, in Antalya, Turkey.
The meeting will consist of six plenary speakers and two banquet speakers. At this time, we have finalized four plenary speakers for the event as mentioned below:
Ray Baughman
Topic: Multifunctional Nanostructured Yarns and Fabrics for Energy Storage, Energy Harvesting, Sonar Projector, and Other Applications
The Alan G. MacDiarmid NanoTech Institute, University of Texas at Dallas, TX 75083, USA
John Blottman
Topic: SMART MATERIALS FOR BIOLOGICALLY INSPIRED AUTONOMOUS SYSTEMS
Sensors and Sonar Systems Department Naval Undersea Warfare Center, RI
John Prater
Topic: The Army Research Office Research Program in Materials Science
Materials Sciences Division Army Research Office
Dwight Viehland
Topic: Investigations of enhanced gain and reduced noise floors in hetero-structured uncooled magnetoelectric composites
Dept. Materials Science and Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA
There are two special events scheduled for the meeting:
1. National Science Foundation's "International Network for Advanced Multifunctional Materials Symposium"
2. CIMSS (Center for Intelligent Material Systems and Structures) Inventor Awards Symposium
We are very excited to announce that Prof. Kenji Uchino, Penn State University, will be the recipient of first "CIMSS Inventor Award". The citation for this award mentions "for original contributions to the field of ultrasonic motors and piezoelectric transformers".
A tentative agenda for the meeting is now available on the meeting website, http://www.cpe.vt.edu/ehw/schedule.html <http://nl.cpe.vt.edu/inc/rdr.asp?191120___1121615346___http://www.cpe.vt.edu/ehw/schedule.html> . We will keep updating the agenda frequently so please visit the website to see changes.
We look forward to seeing you in Roanoke! Your participation is critical in making this event successful.
