The Dwight Look College of Engineering invites applications for the position of Head of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.  The Department Head reports directly to the Dean of the Dwight Look College of Engineering and holds an appointment as a tenured Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering.  Candidates with exceptional credentials will be considered for an endowed chair.

The Department is ranked nationally in the top ten Industrial Engineering departments; collectively, its faculty enjoys national and international recognition in all relevant academic areas.  Currently, some 600 undergraduate and 320 graduate students are enrolled.  This is an exciting time to lead the Department: it has 23 full- and 4 part-time faculty and will move to a new building that is to be completed during the summer of 2011. Texas A&M University, a land-, sea-, and space-grant institution, is the sixth largest university in the nation with over 48,000 students, including over 10,000 engineering students in 12 departments.  More than 25 percent of the engineering students are graduate students.

The successful applicant will be able to communicate a clear vision for the future of Industrial and Systems Engineering education and research at large universities to a constituency that includes academia, government, industry and alumni.  This position requires strong leadership capabilities; the successful applicant will demonstrate the vision, energy, and leadership necessary to advance the Department to a higher level of excellence, enhancing its national and international reputation.  The successful applicant will hold an earned doctorate and have a proven record of achievement and administrative leadership in academia, industry or government.  The position requires dedication to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education and commitment to the diversity of faculty and students.

Each applicant should provide (1) a detailed curriculum vitae, (2) names and contact information of three references, (3) a two-page statement summarizing his/her personal vision and goals for Industrial and Systems Engineering education and research as well as his/her philosophy of academic leadership for achieving those goals.
