Two PhD Studentships in Healthcare Engineering

Digital Product LifecycleManagement Lab, Digital Laboratory, University of Warwick, UK

Two PhD studentships are available in the Digital Product Lifecycle Management Group. This is a
unique opportunity to participate in a major healthcare improvement project, which collaborates
with University of Warwick, General Electric Healthcare, and University Hospitals Coventry and
Warwickshire. The aim of the project is to model complex healthcare services delivered by
hospitals effectively and efficiently. The methods developed are expected to be helpful in
healthcare simulation domain.
The candidates should be motivated to work with multidisciplinary teams of researchers developing
contextualised simulation for healthcare settings. Good knowledge and experience of one or more
of the following subjects is essential: computer programming, process improvements, lean
healthcare, mathematical modelling, as well as excellent communication skills. Good computing
skills, ideally in Java, C++, Visual Basic is must. Knowledge of various types of simulation
modelling would be beneficial.
Candidates must have a degree in one of these fields: industrial engineering, computer engineering,
computer science, and possess the ability to work in a team deliver to a deadline.
The PhD candidates will be encouraged to further develop their analytical and computational skills
while working closely with the team members, and submit the results of work for publications in
the academic literature. An original contribution to knowledge in the field is expected.
The PhD studentship is available immediately. Potential candidates should contact Professor Darek
Ceglarek (d.j.ceglarek at warwick.ac.uk) or Prof. Eduardo Izquierdo (L.E.Izquierdo at warwick.ac.uk)
