The Kate Gleason College of Engineering (KGCOE) seeks an outstanding individual to fill the position of the 

Earl W. Brinkman Endowed Professor of Machine Tools and Manufacturing at the Associate/Full Professor 

rank in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The mission of this position is to develop 

and promote curricula and research in traditional and advanced manufacturing processes. The Earl W. Brinkman 

Endowed Professor will:

 

·         Develop a strong, externally-funded research program in advanced manufacturing processes  

·         Develop and deliver graduate and undergraduate experiential-based coursework in applied manufacturing

·         Enhance engagement of local industry in state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and concepts to promote growth in the local manufacturing community

·         Utilize and enhance the capabilities in the Brinkman Machine Tools and Manufacturing Laboratory

 

A doctorate in engineering or a related field is required. The preferred qualifications include: an established research 

program in a manufacturing area, strong funding and publication record, demonstrated commitment towards teaching, 

learning and advising/mentoring, as well as the ability to engage in industry outreach activities. Strong communication 

skills are highly desirable. 

 

The Kate Gleason College of Engineering (KGCOE) at RIT is the nation's premier career-oriented college of engineering. 

The ISE Department is one of six departments in the KGCOE; the others being Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, 

Microelectronic, and Quality & Applied Statistics.  All BS programs within the College have a mandatory one-year 

co-op experience and are ABET accredited. The ISE Department offers BS, MS, and MEng. degrees in Industrial 

Engineering, MEng degrees in Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, and also supports executive 

MS programs in Product Development and Manufacturing Leadership. In conjunction with the Mechanical Engineering 

Department, the ISE Department also offers MS and MEng degrees in Sustainable Engineering. In addition, there 

are opportunities for participation in the Ph.D. programs in Sustainability, Microsystems Engineering, Computing and 

Information Sciences, and Imaging Science. The ISE Department has ten faculty members, approximately 200 

undergraduate students, 35 graduate students and features outstanding facilities, including the Brinkman Machine 

Tools and Manufacturing Lab and the Toyota Production Systems Lab. Additional information can be found at

The Brinkman Machine Tools and Manufacturing Lab (www.rit.edu/brinkman <http://www.rit.edu/brinkman> ) is a 3000 sq. ft. facility devoted to the 

education and research of advanced manufacturing technologies.  Cooperative agreements with market leading 

machine tool manufacturers ensure state-of-the-art technologies including: multi-spindle turning, Swiss-turn, 

5-axis milling, as well as electro-discharge machining capabilities. An adjacent 500 sq. ft. metrology area supports 

the lab functions. 

 

RIT is located in Rochester, NY, home of large (Bausch & Lomb, Corning, Eastman Kodak, Xerox, Harris, Johnson 

and Johnson) and small corporations devoted to manufacturing, imaging and telecommunications. Rochester is located 

in gorgeous upstate NY, nestled between Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes, and offers a range of cultural/recreational
