INFORMS Western Regional Conference
Connect Locally Through Theory and Practice
April 24-25, 2009 | Arizona State University

Abstract Deadline: February 1, 2009

Early Registration Deadline: April 11, 2009

Join us for the 3rd Annual INFORMS Regional Conference. The goal of
this meeting is to facilitate communication among OR/MS academics and
practitioners around current research and applied work. Academics
(students and faculty) and practitioners in the U.S. Western region
are strongly encouraged to attend and present. While we anticipate
that most attendees will come from western states, attendees from
across the U.S. and beyond are welcome. The conference will be held
just prior to the 2009 INFORMS Practice Conference
(http://meetings.informs.org/Practice09/) which will be held in Phoenix.

1. Guidelines for Submission

We invite you to submit a paper to the INFORMS Western Regional
Conference. Submissions can be made online on our Abstract Submission
page found at:
http://www.informs.org/site/RC_ArizonaState/index.php?c=10&kat=Abstract+Submission.
All attendees, including speakers and session chairs, must register
and pay the registration fee. If you need an early confirmation for
visa or budgetary reasons, please indicate this in the "Comments"
field on the online form.

2. Preliminary Deadline: February 1, 2009

Abstracts received by the preliminary submission deadline, February
1, will receive preference in scheduling. We will continue to accept
contributed abstracts as long as space is available on the program;
abstracts received after February 1 where there are openings. We
encourage you to submit early.

3. Program Online

Once the preliminary program has been finalized and posted on the
Web, all speakers will receive an e-mail directing them to the online
program for the date and time of their presentation, registration,
A/V and other speaker guidelines. For further information on
submitting papers, contact Young-Jun Son, (520) 626-9530;
son at sie.arizona.edu or Muhong Zhang, (480)965-2899; Muhong.Zhang at asu.edu.

4. Program Search

The online preliminary program will be updated regularly. You can
search easily on key words, authors, clusters and sessions. You can
also create a personalized itinerary. All meeting attendees will
receive a printed copy of the final program at the meeting.

5. Undergraduate Student Activities

We have two exciting activities planned that are specifically for
undergraduate students. First, a few sessions will be dedicated for
"Undergraduate Research". Those undergraduate students who have been
conducting research with faculty are strongly encouraged to attend
and present their work. Abstract submissions should be made via the
regular submission site (see "Guideline for Submission" section
above), where "Undergraduate Research" needs to be selected as the track.

Second, we solicit applications for the new Best Undergraduate
Capstone Project (Senior Design Project) award. There will be two
winners: the best team will receive $200 and the second best team
will receive $100. The judges (professors and industry managers) will
evaluate the projects based on the presentations made during the
conference. For those who are interested, a team leader must send the
following information via e-mail (note that abstract submission via
the regular submission site is not required) to Program co-Chairs
Young-Jun Son at son at sie.arizona.edu and Muhong Zhang at
Muhong.Zhang at asu.edu by February 1, 2009:
1) Name of team leader and contact information (e-mail, telephone),
department and university
2) List of team members and their e-mail addresses
3) Brief summary of the projects (less than 200 words)
4) Faculty Advisor's name and his/her e-mail address
