Dear Colleague,
The application process for the REU in Automotive Manufacturing Systems at Auburn University is now open. Please, feel free to forward this announcement to your undergraduate students. I have also attached a flier for your convenience. Thanks.
NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program in
Automotive Manufacturing Systems
The Auburn University’s Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering will host a NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program in Automotive Manufacturing Systems during the summer of 2009. Recent significant growth in the automotive industry in the Southeast, particularly in Alabama, has created a unique opportunity for research in applied industrial and systems engineering. While there are many multidisciplinary research opportunities, this REU Site at Auburn University focuses on automotive research related to manufacturing systems such as optimization, computer simulation, occupational safety, ergonomics, lean manufacturing, and supply chain management.
IMPORTANT DATES
Application deadline: Jan 31, 2009 (Selected applicants will be notified by Feb 15, 2009)
Duration of the program: 8 weeks
Start-end dates: May 26 through July 17, 2009

Extra social activities will be arranged but will not be funded by the program
WHO SHOULD APPLY
Ten students will be selected to participate in this 8-week summer session. All students from US educational institutions majoring in engineering or technology are welcome to apply. Students from underrepresented groups in engineering and technology as well as students unexposed to multidisciplinary research are strongly encouraged to apply. Students from colleges and universities having limited research facilities, including four year colleges, are also strongly encouraged to apply.
Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible to participate in this REU site.
