The National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) has released its Broad
Agency Announcement outlining research interests for the University
Research Initiatives program. The program focuses on specific research
topics in geospatial-intelligence analysis and its related technologies.
This includes research to help improve analyst abilities as well as to
provide better automated capabilities in the analyst environment. Up to
9 grants are anticipated to be awarded from a total pool of $6.75

The Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division invites proposals for new
technology demonstration of an enhanced RF radome. The radome is
intended for integration into a future time sensitive strike weapon, to
enable engagement of mobile targets at extended ranges. It is
anticipated that up to $5 million will be available over the next four
years for radome development, with multiple awards possible. Responses

The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center has issued a
Broad Agency Announcement inviting proposals addressing various and
wide-ranging research and development topic area. The announcement
outlines research interests and technical areas of interest for seven

The Electromagnetics Technology Division of the Air Force Research
Laboratory has released a Broad Agency Announcement outlining the basic,
applied and advanced research interests of the division and the process
to submit proposals to address those interests. No specific funding has
been set aside for grants or contracts through the announcement, however
the division anticipates making awards to educational institutions,
non-profit organizations, and industry for electromagnetics research as
a result of the announcement. The announcement is arranged by discipline
and some overlap of topics results between sections. The BAA is in
effect until Feb. 21, 2011. Interested parties are encouraged to
communicate with the appropriate point of contact for the relevant

Department of Energy
The DOE Hydrogen Program seeks stakeholder and public input on potential
early markets and deployment opportunities for hydrogen and fuel cells.
The information collected will help guide the Program's efforts to
identify key early markets and related green domestic jobs, validate
hydrogen and fuel cell system performance through data collection and
communicate results, cultivate demand and accelerate market development,
and reduce non-technical barriers that hinder market penetration.

On or about Feb. 16, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory intends to
issue a Solicitation for Letters of Interest to U.S. Small Businesses
for the development of prototype photovoltaic modules and pilot
production. This Solicitation is targeted at innovative R&D on PV cell
and module prototypes with demonstrated functionality in either
large-area cell/module form or, preferably, prototypes produced in
pilot-scale operations. Six to 10 subcontracts, up to $3M each, are
anticipated to be awarded as 18-month phased subcontracts. More

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute has issued a request for

participation in collaborative clinical research studies in
hemoglobinopathies, with an emphasis on sickle cell disease and

appropriate populations and potential infrastructure will facilitate the
NHLBI's development of a multi-center clinical study platform for future

The National Institute of Mental Health invites cooperative research
project grant (U01) applications aimed at developing and testing the
effectiveness of practical interventions that can form an evidence base
for the improved care of suicidal individuals seen in emergency medical
departments (ED). To optimize the generalizability of improved ED care
to reduce suicidality, applicants should develop interventions and
approaches that can be tested across multiple general medical emergency
department settings. Up to $3 million is available in FY09 for awards.

applications to create five new Centers of Excellence in Public Health
Informatics. The translational research generated to date from the first
five centers has sparked new questions and offers new possibilities in
this new funding cycle for informatics. Proposed projects must be new
(i.e., not currently funded through other federal grant mechanisms). Up
to 5 awards may be made from total program funding of $5.5 million.

and analyze data to assess the impact of tic symptom severity and

tic disorders with subtle neurocognitive deficits on youth and their
families. Several areas of impact to be studied are identified in the

The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) has
announced on or about Feb 24, it will invite proposals from small
businesses to acquire medical countermeasures (i.e., smallpox antiviral)
that will support an effective public health medical emergency response.
The goal will be to obtain advanced development products, (at a
development level, as classified by the Food and Drug Administration),
which are in no less than the clinical study phase of the
Investigational New Drug process as well as those products that already
have approved therapeutic indications. One five-year contract award is

Department of Justice
The National Institute of Justice invites research proposals through its
"open" Crime and Justice Research solicitation. Although most crime and
justice topics that are relevant to policymakers and practitioners are
eligible for consideration, NIJ has identified seven priority research
areas: predicting crime; emerging crime; human trafficking; re-entry;
preventing crime related to gangs; improving prosecution and defense in
the criminal justice system; and reduction of correction populations.

Department of Transportation
The Federal Railroad Administration invites proposals in response to its
Broad Agency Announcement for demonstration projects and technological
advances for the positive train control/communication R&D program.
Positive Train Control uses microprocessors, advanced navigation and
tracking systems, and wireless technology to interconnect the various
segments of railroad operation to virtually eliminate train-to-train
collision and over-speed derailments, as well as to provide roadway
worker protection. Up to $3 million is available for awards. Eligibility
is unrestricted. Proposal concept papers may be submitted anytime

Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation
The Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation invites proposals
for its 2009 Research Program. Researcher may apply for two-year grants
of $30,000 per year to test new ideas and to explore other research
leads that advance the understanding and treatment of aplastic anemia,
myelodysplastic syndromes and paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria.
Established investigators and new investigators in bone marrow disease

Blue Moon Fund
Blue moon fund seeks to improve the human condition by changing the
relationship between human consumption and the natural world.
Specifically, it supports nonprofit organizations presenting new
economic, cultural, and environmental approaches to resource use, energy
use and urban development. In addition, Blue Moon provides investment
funds for new ventures supporting the organization's goals of
environmental sustainability (by invitation only). Proposals may be
submitted along three themes: Rethinking Consumption and Energy;
Balancing Human & Natural Ecosystems; and Re-energizing Urban
Communities. Blue Moon accepts letters of inquiry on a continual basis.

Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation 
The Kauffman Foundation invites nominations for its Junior Faculty
Fellowships in Entrepreneurship. The Foundation will award up to 5
Fellowship grants to junior faculty members whose research has the
potential to make significant contributions to the body of literature in
entrepreneurship. Each Fellow's university will receive a grant of
$50,000 over two years to support the research activities of the Fellow.
Nominees must be tenured or tenure-track junior faculty members at
accredited U.S. institutions of higher education who received a Ph.D. or
equivalent doctoral degree between Jan. 1, 2004 and Dec. 31, 2007.
