Department of Defense
As it did in the previous week, the Army has released several requests
for proposals to support medical-related research. This week's four
subject areas are: breast cancer, tuberous sclerosis complex, autism,
and peer-reviewed medical research. There are different mechanisms for
awards, depending on the stage of the research or design of the research
team (e.g., traineeships, multi-team, consortium, post-docs). Award
sizes and duration vary by type of award. More background on all of the
Army's Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, including
diseases not mentioned above, is available at: http://cdmrp.army.mil/
<http://ssti.staging.10floor.com/email/169536.1/LH/cdmrp.army.mil/> .
Here are the 10 recently announced funding opportunities:

million pool) to support two or more Historically Black Colleges and
Universities/ Minority Institutions faculty-level investigators in
acquiring the training and experience necessary to obtain independent
breast cancer research funding and to support the establishment of a
sustainable breast cancer research program at the applicant HBCU/MI.
Proposals are due Apr. 8.
* Innovator Award (2 awards from $17 million pool) to
provide these individuals with the funding and freedom to pursue their
most novel, visionary, high-risk ideas that could ultimately lead to the
eradication of breast cancer. Individuals must be nominated to be
considered for this award mechanism; self-nominations will not be
accepted. See announcement for details. Deadline is Jun 17.

pool) supports individuals who have high potential for innovation in
breast cancer research early in their careers. Nominees for this award
should be exceptionally talented, early-career scientists who have
demonstrated that they are the "best and brightest" in their field(s)
through extraordinary creativity, vision, and productivity. Individuals
must be nominated to be considered for this award mechanism;
self-nominations will not be accepted. See announcement for details.
Deadline is Jun 17.
