to our attention that some of our members are not following the

needed, take the necessary steps to regain compliance. If your
organization is not in compliance, SSTI will discontinue your Funding
Supplement subscription.

The U.S. Census Bureau is conducting market research for its R&D 2013

The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the
National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) invites R01 and R21
applications proposing to study the developmental and environmental
processes contributing to HIV risk in individuals under the age of 24.
This funding opportunity calls for studies focusing on HIV risk in
specific settings around the globe where HIV prevalence is high or
increasing and relevant environmental contexts are rapidly changing.
Approximately $2 million in FY 2009 funding is expected to be available
for 6-8 awards. In addition, for R21 awards only, NIMH intends to commit
approximately $400,000 to fund 1-2 applications. Applicants for R01
awards may request a project period of up to five years and a budget for
total direct costs of up to $2.5 million. Applicants for R21 awards may
request a project period of up to two years and a budget for total

NIMH and the National Institute on Drug Abuse invite R01, R03 and R21
applications for research aimed at reducing prescription drug abuse
while supporting appropriate medical use of therapeutic agents that
carry an abuse liability. Applications are sought to understand the
factors contributing to prescription drug abuse; to characterize the
adverse medical, mental health and social consequences associated with
this abuse; and to develop effective prevention and service delivery
approaches and behavioral and pharmacological treatments. More

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites R01 and R21 applications for
research efforts aimed at establishing the physiological significance of
dietary components in modulating the tumoricidal cell activity of
natural killer (NK) cells for cancer prevention. The focus of research
projects proposed in response to this solicitation should be on defining
the minimum quantity and duration of exposure to specific dietary
components to modulate tumoricidal cell activity of NK cells for cancer
prevention and the underlying mechanisms accounting for this response.

biospecimens collected during large-scale multi-institutional clinical

interventions, and inspire future development of improved therapeutic
and preventive strategies. Projects should address the correlations
between intervention outcomes and cancer patients' disease
characteristics determined at various cellular/molecular levels.

applications leading to the development of innovative methods and tools
in order to establish reliable and standardized animal germplasm
cryopreservation protocols to increase the speed, efficiency and
accuracy in the collection, handling, preservation, long term storage,
re-derivation and production of live and healthy offspring.
Approximately $3 million is expected to be available for 6-8 awards.
Applicants for R01 awards may request a project period of up to four
years and a budget for direct costs of up to $350,000 per year.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)
invites R01 applications for the International Research in Infectious
Diseases including AIDS Program. This program encourages applications
from institutions in eligible foreign countries to conduct studies and
establish collaborative infectious diseases research with investigators
and institutions at international sites where NIAID has significant
investment in research and/or infrastructure. The intent of these
activities is to advance the development of local scientific expertise,
build local research infrastructure and to increase collaborative
research partnerships at international sites. Approximately $800,000 is
expected to be available annually over fiscal years 2009-11 to support
8-10 new grants having a project period of up to four years. Applicants
may request a budget for total direct costs of up to $400,000.
Institutions or organizations must be headquartered in foreign
resource-constrained countries (i.e., low-income economies,
lower-middle-income economies, and upper-middle-income economies by
World Bank definition) to be eligible to apply. Letters of intent and

NCI, National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, the
National Institute on Aging, and the Office of Dietary Supplements
invite R21 applications proposing to conduct high quality, preliminary
research of humans that will advance the science of complementary and
alternative medicine (CAM). Such studies will ultimately provide a solid
foundation and justification for larger, subsequent clinical studies to

National Science Foundation (NSF)
NSF is soliciting proposals to establish a Scientific Drilling Support
Office and an Ice Drilling Design and Operations Group. The purpose of
this new office and group, respectively, is (1) to provide scientific
leadership and oversight of ice coring and drilling activities funded by
NSF and (2) to provide the engineering design support for new drilling
systems and the operation and maintenance of existing systems.
Interested parties can propose to manage one or both. Approximately
$3.75 million is expected to be available annually to support 1-2
cooperative agreement awards having a project period of up to five

NSF is soliciting proposals for the Graduate Teaching Fellowships in
K-12 Education program. This program provides funding to graduate
students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics (STEM) disciplines to acquire additional skills that will
broadly prepare them for professional and scientific careers in the 21st
century. During their tenure as fellows, they must be full-time graduate
students pursuing master's or Ph.D. degrees in STEM disciplines. Fellows
also must be citizens, nationals or permanent residents of the U.S.
Approximately $12.6 million in FY 2009 funding is expected to be
available for 21 new awards having a project period of up to five years.
Awards of up to $600,000 per year may be made. Eligible are academic
institutions in the U.S. and its territories that grant master's or
doctoral degrees in STEM disciplines supported by NSF. Nonacademic
institutions, industry, nonprofit organizations and museums may serve as
collaborating organizations. Principal investigators must be STEM
discipline faculty members actively conducting STEM research at the lead

New F&A Schedule (Pending Federal approval)

 

Effective April 1, 2008, all newly submitted proposals must include the
correct F&A rate(s) for the appropriate year(s), including multi-year
proposals. The Clemson F&A agreement, effective March 5, 2007, includes
an increase of one-half percent each year for the next two years for
On-campus Organized Research. The negotiated rate for FY 07/08 is 47.5%,
FY 08/09 is 48%, and FY 09/10 is 48.5%. The 48.5% rate should be used
for fiscal years after FY10 until we have a new rate agreement.
