the publication for yourself and your constituents. It has been brought
to our attention that some of our members are not following the

needed, take the necessary steps to regain compliance. If your
organization is not in compliance, SSTI will discontinue your Funding

The Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service
(CSREES) invites applications for its Expert Integrated Pest Management
Decision Support System program. This program seeks to develop expert
systems that help guide, demonstrate and multiply impacts of
USDA-supported Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. These systems
should, in part, design and/or maintain LOGIC model-based reporting
software that helps selected CSREES-supported IPM Research Education and
Economic programs compile program/project reports. Approximately
$143,000 in FY 2008 funding is expected to be available for one award
having a one-year project period. Eligible are state agricultural
experiment stations, land-grant colleges and universities, research
foundations established by land-grant colleges and universities,
colleges and universities receiving funds under the Act of Oct. 10,
1962, and accredited schools or colleges of veterinary medicine.

proposals must be designed to overcome currently identified economic
problems and lead to sustainable economic development. Approximately

appropriation is expected to be available for two awards having a
project period of up to four years. Applicants may request up to $2
million for direct costs, plus indirect costs as appropriate. Principal
investigators must be independent investigators at any academic level
and must provide a transition plan, including funding and resources,
showing how the products will progress to clinical trials and/or
delivery to the military or civilian market after completion of the
award.
* Clinical Trial Award. This award supports rapid implementation
of clinical trials of interventions with the potential to have a
significant impact on a disease or condition addressed in one of the
program's 21 topic areas. The clinical trials may be designed to
evaluate a pharmacologic agent (drug or biologic), device or behavioral
intervention. Approximately $7.5 million is expected to be available for
two awards having a project period of up to four years. Applicants may
request up to $2.5 million for direct costs, plus indirect costs as
appropriate. Principal investigators must be independent investigators
at any academic level.
* Investigator-Initiated Research Award. This award supports
research that makes an important contribution to research and/or patient
care in one of the program's 21 topic areas. Research projects that
support the development or validation of evidence-based clinical policy
or guidelines are encouraged. Approximately $21.6 million is expected to
be available for 16 awards having a project period of up to three years.
In addition, approximately $900,000 is expected to be available for one
award focusing on bone marrow failure disorder research. Applicants may
request up to $900,000 for direct costs, plus indirect costs as
appropriate. Principal investigators must be independent investigators
at or above the level of assistant professor.
* Translational Research Award. This award supports translational
research focused on a health-related central problem or question in one
of the program's 21 topic areas. Translational research may be defined
as an integration of basic science and clinical observations.
Approximately $8.1 million is expected to be available for six awards
having a project period of up to three years. Applicants may request up
to $900,000 for direct costs, plus indirect costs as appropriate.
Principal investigators must be independent investigators at any
academic level and must have experience in the disease or condition to
be studied, gained through laboratory research or as a practicing
clinician.
The Army will be soliciting white papers and proposals for the high
speed/hypersonic test science and technology focus area of the Test and
Evaluation/Science and Technology Program. This solicitation is intended

NCI invites R25 applications proposing to develop innovative cancer
education programs and cancer research dissemination projects that can
be completed within five years. Specifically, this includes support for:
(1) innovative educational programs intended to motivate biomedical and
other health science students to pursue cancer related careers; (2)
short courses to update cancer research scientists in new scientific
methods, technologies and findings; (3) training of cancer care
clinicians and community healthcare providers in evidence-based cancer
prevention and control approaches; and (4) development of effective
innovative education approaches to translate knowledge gained from
science into public health, and community applications. Applicants may
request a project period of up to five years and a budget for direct

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR)
invites F30 applications for the Individual Predoctoral Dental Scientist
Fellowship. The purpose of this fellowship is to offer an integrated
dental and graduate research training program that leads to attainment
of both the DDS/DMD and Ph.D. (or equivalent) degrees. NIDCR intends to
award up to five new fellowships per year. Individual awards vary
depending upon tuition and fees needed, but historically have averaged

DHS invites private industry to submit proposals to develop and test
advanced technology to automatically verify with high confidence that
special nuclear material (SNM) is not present inside an object through
the measurement of signatures unique to SNM. The primary objective is to
clear cargo, packages and vehicles of threat contraband with very low
missed detections -- measurements leading to inconclusive,
low-confidence results should alarm. Approximately $42 million,
including $8 million in FY 2008 funding, is expected to be available for
three or more contract awards having a project period of up to 35
months. Private industry organizations may subcontract with
national/government laboratories, Federally Funded Research and
Development Centers, and academic institutions, as appropriate.

MJFF is soliciting preproposals for its Developing and Validating
Web-based Clinical Assessments for Parkinson's Disease (PD) program.
This program seeks to create and test the feasibility of online clinical
Web assessments that patients can utilize remotely. Web assessments can
include various measurements of motor and/or non-motor symptoms of PD,
such as questionnaires and other approaches incorporating innovative
uses of technology for direct assessment of PD in a Web-based format. Up
to $1 million is expected to be available for awards having a project
period of up to two years. Applicants may request a budget for direct
costs appropriate and justifiable for the work proposed, in addition to
indirect costs of up to 25 percent of direct costs. Eligible are public

Administration (NOAA), is soliciting preproposals for the Marine Debris
Research and Technology Grants Program. This program supports projects
to improve understanding of the impacts of marine debris on marine and
coastal resources and to reduce and prevent debris in the marine
environment. The program provides competitive grants to finance
innovative proposals that seek to work with marinas, ports and the
fishing industry to significantly reduce the occurrence of debris in
these areas. Technology proposals to test new innovations in gear
development to prevent loss or make the gear stop fishing or entangling,
if lost, are strongly encouraged. Approximately $800,000 is available
for awards, which are expected to range from $10,000 to $200,000.
Eligible are institutions of higher education, other nonprofits,
commercial organizations, and state, local and tribal governments whose
projects have the potential to benefit NOAA trust resources through

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF)
RWJF invites applications for its Active Living Research program. This
program supports research to inform policy and environmental strategies
for increasing physical activity among children and adolescents,
decreasing their sedentary behaviors and preventing obesity. Special
emphasis is placed on strategies with the potential to reach
racial/ethnic populations and children living in low-income communities
who are at highest risk for obesity. Approximately $3.3 million is
available for 16 research grants and four dissertation grants. The size
and duration of the research grants vary by the program's four topic
areas; the maximum possible award is $400,000 for a project period of
1-3 years. Dissertation grants of up to $25,000 may be made for a
project period of 1-2 years. Preference will be given to applicants that
are either public entities or nonprofit organizations that are
tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

New F&A Schedule (Pending Federal approval)
Effective April 1, 2008, all newly submitted proposals must include the
correct F&A rate(s) for the appropriate year(s), including multi-year
proposals. The Clemson F&A agreement, effective March 5, 2007, includes
an increase of one-half percent each year for the next two years for
On-campus Organized Research. The negotiated rate for FY 07/08 is 47.5%,
FY 08/09 is 48%, and FY 09/10 is 48.5%. The 48.5% rate should be used
for fiscal years after FY10 until we have a new rate agreement.
