We will have zoom lunch and discussion today as we have been having. Today at noon. Topics today include all things Terry Crews, do you agree with his comments? Do his views make it hard on the Black Lives Matter movement? If you had one word that you would use to describe him what would it be? Also today we will be discussing the incident in Bloomington, IN where a young Black man was almost lynched by a group of white males while he was out with a group of his white friends. I have. A lot of questions about this one so tune in and find out what they are. Last but not least Kanye West is running for President, do you believe him or is this a distraction? Would you cote for him? Do you think young people will vote for him?

On another note please share the position description with any qualified people of color that you know who may be qualified and have interest in this position. I want to make sure that they can’t say they didn’t have any qualified applicants of color.

NOTIFICATION OF JOB OPENING

TO:  ALL CITY DEPARTMENTS

POSITION TITLE:           POLICE CHIEF

BASIC FUNCTIONS:   The City of Clemson is seeking to fill the position of Police Chief.  This position, under limited supervision, manages the operations of the Police Department.  The ideal candidate will have experience in dealing with a college town environment.   Work involves supervising all Police Department staff directly or through subordinate supervisors.  Reports to the City Administrator.  

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Requires a Bachelor's degree in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration or a closely related field supplemented by ten years of experience in police work with five years of which must have been equivalent to Police Lieutenant or higher and completion of Basic Law Enforcement training; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and experience.  Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid SC Driver's License without record of suspension or revocation in any state.  Is able to meet Department's physical standards. Must receive and maintain certification as law enforcement officer from SC Criminal Justice Academy. Must successfully complete periodic training programs, both internal and external.

DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Supervises department employees which involves such duties as instructing, assigning and reviewing work, maintaining standards, acting on employee problems, selecting new employees, appraising employee performance, recommending promotions, discipline, termination and salary increases.  Promulgates rules and regulations for department as delegated by municipal code.  Supervises and coordinates the preparation and presentation of an annual budget for the Department; directs the implementation of the department's budget; plans for and reviews specifications for new or replaced equipment; negotiates with municipal officials for appropriation of funds.  Plans and implements a law enforcement program for the City in order to better carry out the policies and goals of City Management and Council; reviews Department performance and effectiveness, formulates programs or policies to alleviate deficiencies. 

SALARY HIRING RANGE:Hiring Range - Grade 34:   $76,415 - $91,698 annually, depending on qualifications and experience; with an excellent benefits package.
