To my esteemed teacher:
I found your information on the website of the Department of physics, and
I noticed that your research focuses on condensed physics. Since I was
majoring in condensed physics and had 3 year's lab experience and I fell
in love with this area. I wonder if you would take any student next fall
2011, and I hope you could give me more information about your program.
Now If you feel free to read, the following is something about me.
In the fall of 2004, I finish my study in middle school and went in to Sun
Yat-sen University. That may be the first time I stay in an area where
numerous teachers or students talk about art or science. From then on, I
lost myself in reading and experiments, because of the atmosphere of study
and influence of teachers and classmates. I believe that new materials and
new energy could lead human being to a new world.
During the four years at Sun Yat-sen University, I have learned many
physics courses and got much knowledge in microelectronics and condensed
states physics by reading the books in library. I have got grade “B” in
most of my subject courses. Besides, the volunteer work and the student
association work after class improve my practical ability.
In Feb., 2008, I went into laboratory and rapidly got interested in the
laboratory’s work. My research ability developed rapidly under the
instruction of a senior fellow and a sincere professor, who is also my
mentor during graduate study. I also began to take part in the lectures in
our department, and this experience greatly broadened my spectrum. The
first experiment I have done is research the ferroelectronic properties of
PbTiO3. By studying the electronic and through the analysis of the
electronic and optical properties of PbTiO3 thin films, I found that the
thickness of thin film have great influence on the ferroelectronic property.
Besides the above work, I have thought of research the resistant switch
property of WO3 and AWO4(A=Ba,Ca,Sr). Resistant switch property has been
concluded as a result of the cut off of electric resistance. As the
property of resistant switch has been found in NiO thin film, we conclude
that WO3 may have the same property. Because W and Ni have some chemical
characters in comment, WO3 may appear the same electric property with NiO.
However, in the electric test of WO3 thin film, we found that the low
resistance will lead to a breakdown, which will influent the test result of
WO3 thin film. Thus AWO4 may satisfy our need while evade the default of
WO3.
In Feb., 2011, I gave up the opportunity to read up a Ph.D in Sun Yat-sen
University(beginning in the fall of 2011) because I do think to expose
myself to somewhat different kind of experiences can a way of acquiring a
broaden background, which I consider important for further research. I also
think it is necessary to deepen my theory knowledge, for enough theory
understanding is a strong base for further study. Your institution is known
international for her excellent faculty and quality of education. Equally
important is the presence of many other students of comparable ability and
level of enthusiasm. Besides, I have carefully study the curriculum,
offered by your school, which I found attractive for me. I believe my
nascent abilities and insights into science can be blossom on your campus,
so I want to apply for a PhD study at your university.
If you ever have any thought of taking Ph.D this year, do convey to me and
tell my you anticipation and what a prospective student in your definition.
