Giveaways

Congratulations Kevin Jones and April Pierce!!! They are the winners of this week’s MBA Giveaway! Please touch base with Jeremy to claim your prize (jmonday at clemson.edu<mailto:jmonday at clemson.edu>). Jeremy will have the purple box at the front desk again on Monday to start collecting names for the drawing next week!

Help Evaluate Furniture Options – Last Day!

As you know we are moving to Greenville ONE at the end of this year. We are well into the design process and would like your feedback on some of the options for classroom and auditorium seating.

Darlene Fuhst has set up an area in the lower lobby facing Falls street past the Center for Corporate Learning and SBDC offices (Straight past the elevators, through both sets of double glass doors at the bottom of the stairs). Attached is an evaluation form – you can fill it out online and email to dfuhst at clemson.edu<mailto:dfuhst at clemson.edu> or you can fill out a printed copy (on the table at the top of the stairs).

Chairs are clearly labeled plus there are photos on the form to alleviate any confusion.

Please complete your evaluations by 9:30 pm Tonight so we can return the samples.

IMPORTANT NOTE: please do your best to ignore/disregard the color and fabric on the samples. They are not the colors we will have in the new building – these are what manufacturers had on hand to loan us. You’re evaluating comfort and design (shape) only. I know sometimes the color can be distracting but please try to look beyond that.

Thanks for your help! We look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Parking

Due to increased security measures from the building management, you MUST have your access card with you to gain entrance to Clemson at the Falls. If you do not have your access card with you, you will not be permitted to enter the building by the front desk associate and security guard. You must have your access card with you at all times.

Students are required to park beyond the gate in the garage, and not in the visitors spaces before the gate.

If you have issues with your access card, please see Jeremy right away.

Dress Code

With warm weather finally here, we would like to remind everyone of the appropriate dress code.
The dress code for students at Clemson at the Falls is business casual for day-to-day classes and activities. We define business casual as collared golf shirt or button down shirt and khaki slacks or nice pants for men. No shorts, t-shirts, flip flops, baseball caps, etc. Business casual for women consists of a nice top with slacks or a skirt. Again, no shorts, t-shirts, etc.

New Online Electives for Summer

The following three courses will be offered ONLINE this summer and can count as electives towards your MBA Program. Because the PADM courses (PADM 822, Section 400 and PADM 878, Section 400) are not coded as MBA, you will need to add your name to the PADM request log for the course and their department will add you in. You will be able to add yourself into the MBA coded course (MBA 899, Section 402).

MBA 899-Section 402: Taxation of Business Decisions
Taxation of Business Decisions 3(3,0) Discusses the importance of taxation in business decision making.
Emphasizes the interrelationship of taxes, the choice of business form, and various business transactions; exposes students to the breadth of business decisions which are affected by the Federal income tax. The course is designed for non-accounting students with little or no background in tax.

PADM 822 section 400 - Public Policy Process
Public Policy Process - The policy process consists of several major models of policymaking that frame how ideas become adopted legislation. Students examine how the theory stems from real life examples and learn to evaluate policy effectiveness.

PADM 878 section 400 - Regional Economic Development
Regional Economic Development - This class is based on literature developed in the recent past on issues of sustainability and resilience in the highly disruptive environment of today's knowledge-based economy. Students read the seminal journal articles that deal with spillover effects and externalities from public good that change the incentives for the location of industrial production. A core issue examined is the nature of the American federalist system where the cost of the provision of public goods is mostly born by individual states, but their benefits are diffused regionally, nationally, and in some cases globally. The policies examined focus on the issues of inter and intra state competition, when such a competition surpasses a socially optimal level, and the tools public administrators use to mitigate the effects.
