First Friday Speaker Series- TONIGHT!
If you registered for the First Friday Speaker Series tonight, please try to arrive a few minutes early to secure a seat.  We will have a packed house!

Spring and Summer 2013 Course Scheduling- Registration begins MONDAY!

Please find the Spring and Summer 2013 Course Schedule attached.  Registration will open on Monday, November 5th.  Please be ready to register at that time as courses fill up fast! MBA Student Association Elections- Wednesday, November 14
If you are interested in running for an officer position with the MBASA, please see the descriptions below of the open seats.  An election will take place on Wednesday, November 14th.  Please contact current MBASA President, Paul Ballenger for additional details.  (pballen at g.clemson.edu<mailto:pballen at g.clemson.edu>)
The officers of the MBASA shall consist of a President, Executive Vice-President, Vice President of Social Affairs (two, if necessary), Vice President of Communications, Vice President of Finance, and the Vice President of Philanthropy.
a) President

 *   To call and preside at meetings of the Association and of the Executive Committee.
 *   To direct, organize, and coordinate planning for all functions of the Association.
 *   To determine that all reporting responsibilities and other duties of the Executive Vice President, Vice President(s) of Social Affairs, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Communications, and the Vice President of Philanthropy are performed in accordance with the Bylaws.
 *   To serve as liaison between the Association and the following:

    *   University officials
    *   University/Local media
    *   MBA Program directors
    *   College of Business & Behavioral Science faculty/staff

 *   To be responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the MBASA constitution.
 *   To perform other duties to promote the welfare and the efficient operation of the Association.
 *   Schedule and reserve space for Association meetings.
 *   Notify members of upcoming events.
 *   Supervise election of new officers.
 *   Approve reimbursements before payment by the Vice President of Finance and review and approve financial reporting.
 *   With approval of the executive committee, appoint students to MBASA cabinet positions as deemed necessary (examples: GSG Senators, Tailgating Coordinator, etc.).

b) Executive Vice President

 *   To preside over all meetings in the absence of the President.
 *   To assist the President, Vice President of Finance, Vice President(s) of Social Affairs, Vice President of Communications, and Vice President of Philanthropy in the performance of prescribed duties.
 *   To be the primary representative in the Graduate Student Government Senate (may appoint if necessary)
 *   To be responsible for recording members, deciding which members qualify to be active or inactive, which will be reviewed by the Executive Committee.
 *   To attend and participate in activities as discussed in Executive Committee meetings.
 *   To perform other duties as assigned by the President.

c) Vice President of Finance

 *   To be responsible for all financial matters of the Association.
 *   To present the Association's budget to Graduate Student Government to obtain GSG funding and to maintain funded status with GSG.
 *   To collect membership fees, activity deposits, and any assessments of the Association and to maintain proper records thereof.
 *   To make disbursements.  All disbursements must first be approved by the President.
 *   To submit, for approval of the Executive Committee as requested, a financial report.
 *   To arrange for an audit, to be done internally by an Association member who is not a member of the Executive Committee.
 *   To maintain proper controls and documentation of all cash receipts and disbursements.
 *   To maintain appropriate and proper financial records for year-end audit.

    *   Monthly bank reconciliation
    *   Documenting and recording of all cash and checks received in the receipt book
    *   Timely deposits of all cash.
    *   Documenting and recording of all check disbursements written.

 *   To attend and participate in activities as discussed in Executive Committee meetings.
 *   To perform other duties as assigned by the President.

d) Vice President of Communications

 *   To maintain and update the MBASA website on a weekly basis.
 *   To maintain and manage the MBASA Novell account.
 *   To maintain and manage the MBASA listserv (email list).
 *   To maintain a current and complete membership roster.
 *   To record meeting minutes at all MBASA officer and general meetings.
 *   To write content for and maintain the MBASA Newsletter.
 *   To attend all MBASA officer meetings as well as general MBASA meetings.
 *   To attend and participate in activities as discussed in Executive Committee meetings.
 *   To serve as a liaison between MBASA and CCIT/Laptop Support Center.

e) Vice President of Social Affairs

 *   To plan, promote, and organize the social events for the Association.
 *   To promote unity and camaraderie between all students, particularly between the first and second year students.
 *   To encourage involvement in Student Association activities by all MBASA members.
 *   To attend and participate in activities as discussed in Executive Committee meetings.
 *   To plan and provide social and professional events such as plant tours, distinguished speakers, semi-formals, etc.
 *   To perform other duties as assigned by the President.

f) Vice President of Philanthropy

 *   To serve as liaison between the Association and the chosen philanthropy.
 *   To plan, promote, and organize fundraising and philanthropic events for the Student Association.
 *   To attend and participate in activities as discussed in Executive Committee meetings.
 *   To perform other duties as assigned by the President.

g) International Representative

 *   To serve as liaison between international students and the Association.
 *   To encourage the involvement of international students in Association activities.
 *   To plan, promote and organize one event per semester, aimed at increasing cultural awareness.
 *   To organize team building activities aimed at promoting interaction between international and local students.
 *   To attend and participate in activities as discussed in Executive Committee meetings.
 *   To perform other duties as assigned by the President.

h) First Year Representative

*   To serve as liaison between first-year members of the MBASA in Association activities.

*   To promote the involvement of first-year members in Association activities.

*   To attend and participate in activities as discussed in Executive Committee meetings.

*   To perform other duties as assigned by the President.


Commerce Club Invites you to Young Executive Networking- November 13

"Six Degrees of Stephen Tyler: Making Connections That Count."
A 15-20 minute seminar on networking skills presented by Caroline Buxton Avinger, president of Protocol, LLC who understands the importance of proper business etiquette in today's business world. Caroline received her training and certification from The Protocol School of Washington(r), the only accredited protocol and business etiquette school in the nation.

Tuesday, November 13
6:00pm - 7:15pm
$10 per person

Young Executives ages 40 and under are invited to join other Young Execs for Networking.
Event will include light hors d'oeuvres, domestic beer and house wine.

Volunteer Opportunity

IT-ology is a non-profit collaboration of businesses, academic instituitions and organizations dedicated to growing the IT talent pipeline and advancing the IT profession.  They are hosting  golf tournament on November 16th to raise money for a non-profit organization, Homefront Security.

Homefront Security is their effort to help our brave veterans transition from their services abroad into productive IT careers at home.  There is a significant need for cyber security professionals with security clearance.  Homefront Security helps to train IT veterans so they can hit the ground running in these jobs and provide value to their employers.

There are many ways that you can get involved and tons of local businesses that will have representatives there including Wells Fargo, Steve While VW, Twin Peaks, Macs Speed Shop, Junior Achievement and more.  Needless to say this would be a great networking event to build relationships in the community.

Serrus Capital is seeking an intern that has high levels of experience or expertise in the technology fields. They are launching an internal process management system that is cloud based need someone with advanced computer skills, and could also help with some general IT needs. You would also be in charge of researching what software to use, customization with the vendor, and internal implementation.  They would like the intern to devote about 20 hours/week and this will be paid.
