Congratulations on the completion of another semester and CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR DECEMBER GRADUATES!!!! Please enjoy your well deserved time off over the holidays.
Just a friendly reminder that classes begin on MONDAY, January 6! (Do not follow what iRoar says or the Academic Calendar) MBA classes always start the Monday before the rest of campus. Again, MONDAY January 6th, we will be excited to welcome you back for the Spring Semester in your new facility! (1 North Main Street)
On behalf of the MBA staff, we would like to wish you all and very happy, healthy and safe holiday season!
Gaining access to new facility- January 2-3
We will be moving to our new facility at 1 N. Main Street over the winter break in December. On January 2nd and 3rd we will have open house hours from 4-7pm where you can come pick up your access card and take a tour of the new space. You will enter at the first floor Main Street entrance. We are very excited for you to see your new facility. The classrooms are state of the art and there is plenty of great student space!

Spring/Summer 2014 Schedule
Please find the Spring/Summer 2014 Schedule attached.
New Elective for Spring 2014- Economics of Innovation
The Economics of Innovation, ECON 899 in the Spring 2014 semester is described below. The class is taught by myself, and guest lecturers. These individuals are generally successful entrepreneurs. The class meets Wednesdays from 6:00 - 8:45 pm. On the evenings when a guest lecturer presents, they will speak for roughly 1 hour and answer questions following their talk. We will typically take a short break, and then I will follow up their talk with a few comments.
Your grade will be based on two activities. First, one week after each talk at the start of the next class, you must turn in a report on the talk, summarizing the talk and giving some economic analysis from their talk. These reports are typically 2-3 pages, and can be done in groups with a maximum allowable size of 4. The second activity is a final paper, due on Friday, April 25 by noon. Every thirty minutes after noon loses one full letter grade. So a paper turned in at 2:00 pm on April 25 will receive an F. The paper must be on some topic related to innovation. It is not a book report. Successful A papers have included one student's business plan for starting up a professional alternative triathalon, mountain biking, cross country running and kayaking. He already had experience in running this event in Greenville. Another example was a description of new technology that translates motion in a night club from dancers into electrical power. This method powered the entire club. Another was a business plan for a startup ebusiness, in which the student was already a co-owner of the operation. The paper is roughly 8-12 pages in length and is an individual effort.
Below I list the speakers who have already committed to speaking.
