United Way of Greenville County - Community Affairs Manager position

Summary:
As a member of the Community Impact staff provides leadership and staff support for the United Way's Public Policy Agenda and Campaign for the Common Good. Creates opportunities for the UW to influence policy dialogue with local, state, and federal legislators as well as local municipalities, school boards, and other civic groups. Creates opportunities for UW initiatives, programs and strategies to be discussed and promoted through community forums, roundtable forums, and dialogues. Provides staff leadership to the UW Public Policy Committee.
Essential Job Functions: Through employee's own efforts or through the delegation of key staff:
* Public Policy, Advocacy and Community Awareness: establish a bi-annual process to identify UW Policy Agenda.
o Educate and create awareness for UW public policy Agenda among
* UW Volunteers
* UW Staff
* Local, State, and Federal Legislators
o Track local, state and national legislation and other issues relevant to United Way initiatives.
o Proactively establish and maintain effective relationships with key elected and appointed public officials at meetings and functions.
o Implement strategies to advance United Way's Public Policy agenda.
o Conduct Community dialogues and forums in conjunction with Community Investment initiatives and other United Way priorities.
* Coordination and Cooperation with Community Impact management team: Acts as an integral decision maker and member of the Community Impact management team.
o Coordinates all public policy and community awareness efforts with the Director's of Community and Program Investment.
o Maintains continuous understanding of the tie between direct service programs and initiatives and United Way Community and Program Investment priorities.
o Provides Policy updates and recommendations to the Community Impact Cabinet, based on UW Community Investment strategic priorities.
Required Minimum Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in political science, sociology, business administration, social work, education, or a related field.
* Five years of professional experience in successful team and organizational leadership.
* Three years of professional experience in program, project and budget management.
* One year of professional experience in grant writing, volunteer management, facilitation and/or public speaking.
* Knowledge and use of current Microsoft Office software and its applications.
* Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of South Carolina.
* Possession of an automobile for business use and appropriate insurance coverage.
Preferred Education and Experience:
* Master's degree (MBA, MSW or MPA).
* Non-profit experience.
