Happy Thanksgiving!!

There will be no classes on Wednesday, November 21-Friday, November 23 due to the Thanksgiving Holiday!  Classes will resume on Monday, November 26th.  I hope that you all have a very happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your break!

First Friday Speaker Series- Friday, December 7

December Graduation Celebration/Holiday Social

Please save the date for Friday, December 14th for our December Graduation Celebration/Holiday Social.  Each year, we honor our graduates with a brief ceremony in Classroom 1A starting at 6pm, followed by a reception in the Atrium.  Please join us to celebrate our December Graduates and spend some time together before the holidays.

MBA Student Association Election Results

Hurricane Sandy Collection
Just over two weeks ago Hurricane Sandy devastated neighborhoods in New York and New Jersey.  The people living in these states were hit particularly hard and are in need of some very basic supplies.

MBA Student, Matthew Gooch is spearheading a collection here at Clemson at the Falls to help our friends from the north that are in need.  Below is a list of the items that have been requested.  Please help as you can.  Whatever you can provide would be helpful and very much appreciated.  During the day, you can drop off items to my office, and in the evenings, Jeremy will collect items while he is at the front desk.  Matthew will be heading to deliver the donations the weekend after Thanksgiving so please bring them to us no later than Thursday, November 29th.

Spring and Summer 2013 Course Scheduling

Please find the Spring and Summer 2013 Course Schedule attached.  Registration opened on Monday, November 5th.  If you have any questions or  would like to set up an advising appointment to discuss your schedule, please
contact Jamie Patterson (jpatte4 at clemson.edu<mailto:jpatte4 at clemson.edu>) or Jane Layton (elayton at clemson.edu<mailto:elayton at clemson.edu>).  MBA 899- Advanced Leadership is already full for Spring 2013.  We have added an additional section of this course to Summer I.  MBA 809 is also closed for Spring 2013.  There is an additional section of MBA 809 in Summer I.  We are also excited to announce that we have added a new elective to Summer I, MBA 899- Taxation of Business Decisions with Professor Judson Jahn.

Registering for Electives:

As you can see in the course schedule, many of our electives are coded different than MBA.  For example:  Supply Chain Management is coded MGT 812, Heath Care Ethics is coded MHA 724, Macro Marketing is coded MKT 866.  Because you are an MBA student, you can only register for classes that are coded as MBA, however, the electives that are listed on the course schedules attached are MBA class electives and you get priority.  When you go to register for these electives that are coded other than MBA, it will tell you that they are closed, but they are not.  All you will need to do is add you name to the request log and the MGT, MKT, or MHA department heads will add you in.  In addition, I would also like to remind you that we have moved to an elective system where you can pick and choose your three electives from any of the former emphasis areas.  If you wish to follow the old plan of the emphasis area, you can  do that as well.  We are happy to give you the flexibility to pick and choose so you can tailor your electives to be most beneficial to you and what you are looking to do upon graduation.

Registering for the Seminar Series (MBA 880/850/881):

You must register for all three seminar classes together.   The system will tell you that there is an overlap, but this is ok.  Also, when registering for MBA 880, it will ask you to enter the number of credit hours.  It is 1.  Each seminar class is equal to 1 credit hour.

Small Business Development Workshop- November 30

Small Business Legal Issues, Friday Nov 30; Registration/Networking 8:30, Program 9AM to noon.

Two local attorneys, John Perkins and Doug Lineberry, are presenting this program for the 3rd year, filled with practical insights for the owners and managers of small businesses.  Topics include basics of intellectual property, entity formation, employee/contractor agreements and more.  Nothing but real-world, protect yourself, tough love, time well spent.
