Subject: Dear Clemson: Classes cancelled Tuesday for Election

Dear Clemson:

Tuesday, November 6, is an important day in our nation's life.  I urge every eligible voter at Clemson University - faculty, staff and students - to make voting a priority that day.

For students, we have today cancelled classes for Tuesday.  If you have a test scheduled that day, expect it to be given at the next class meeting.  Online pre-registration will proceed as normal.

Please check the website on Monday for more information and specifics about laboratories and other issues.

Here's some background on the lateness of this decision:
Our academic calendar was revised a few years ago to move Fall Break from early November to mid-October at the suggestion of students and with their support.  At the time, we were not aware of state legislation related to the closing of public institutions on Election Day.

I'm grateful to the alert students who brought this law to my attention today.  The Calendar Committee will revisit this issue after the election is over.
