Dear colleagues, dear students,
this is our second announcement of the seventh
YOUNG MATHEMATICIANS CONFERENCE
at the The Ohio State University
during August 27th - 29th, 2010 (Fri-Sun)
APPLICATIONS
>>> Applications for participation and support are now OPEN<<<
In order to apply please follow the links (click "Apply" from
menu) and
instructions on the conference web site at

Please carefully read our information on joint presentations,
abstracts,
and reimbursements. The deadline for applications is
Monday August 2nd 4:00pm EST
YMC 2010
YMC is an annual undergraduate research conference in mathematics,
which attracts applications and participants from all over the country
every year (160 students applied in 2009). For activities in past
years see
http://www.ymc.osu.edu
Undergraduate students involved in REUs and similar programs as
well as
accompanying mentors are invited to submit applications. As in
previous years
a panel of several faculty will evaluate submitted research
abstracts. About
70 student applicants will be selected for participation based on
these reviews.
Those invited will present their research in talks or with
posters, and will have
the travel (<$600), lodging, as well as meals covered. Invited
mentors can apply
for partial support depending on each case.
We expect most decisions on invitations and support to be
completed around
August 7th. Invitee will need to make travel arrangements and
submit a confirmation
immediately after the invitation.
PROGRAM
Highlights of this year's conference, besides the student
presentations,
include three distinguished plenary lectures by
Colin Adams (Williams College)
Bryna Kra (Northwestern University)
Lauren Williams (UC Berkeley).
We will also continue our "Graduate School Orientation" this
year with
representatives from various different US graduate programs in
mathematics.
Thus far we have representatives from Arizona State, CUNY Grad Center,
UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, NC State, Ohio State and hopefully several
more
who will participate in the graduate panel discussion and will be
available
during social events.
PLEASE ADVERTISE
We ask you to advertise this conference to your students as well
as any
colleagues of yours who are involved in undergraduate research.
You can
download a poster of this year's conference in PDF format at
http://www.ymc.osu.edu/2010/img/ymc_poster.pdf
.
Please let us know if we should send you another poster and help
us advertise
our conference.
JUDGES
If you are interested in judging submitted abstracts please
contact me. This
is an excellent opportunity to gain insight in what is done in
undergraduate
research around the country. Requirements are a PhD in math,
preferably a
faculty positions, and some time and internet access in the days
following the
above deadline.
For any questions and comments please contact us at
ymc at math.osu.edu
The conference is funded under NSF Grant DMS-0841054 (2009-2011)
and is
supported with additional resources by the Department of
Mathematics at
The Ohio State University.
