Dear REU Director:
A reminder about our upcoming undergraduate conference. Please
encourage your REU participants to come and present.
Thanks,
David
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Georgia Southern
University will hold its inaugural Eagle Undergraduate Mathematics
Conference (EUMC) on Saturday, March 6 (from 9:00 -- 4:00) on our
campus in Statesboro.
** Please pass the word on to your colleagues and students **
The conference will feature
* Student talks (abstract deadline is Monday, February 22)
* Team problem solving competition
* MAA State Luncheon and Plenary Speaker
* T. A. Rush (graduate program exhibits)
* No registration fee for undergrad students; $15 for faculty and
other attendees
* T-shirts, lunch and refreshments included
* Modest travel support available
The conference will provide an excellent opportunity for
undergraduates enrolled in institutions in Georgia, South Carolina,
and northern Florida to interact with other students and faculty about
their experiences in mathematics.
This is an opportunity for undergraduate students at all levels to
give 15-minute talks about their independent work in any area
associated with mathematics, its applications, its history or its
education.
You are encouraged to bring your students to the conference to give a
talk, participate in the contest, or listen to the talks.
Modest travel support is available for undergraduate students from
schools that cannot provide support. This will include lodging for
speakers.
The student competition will be conducted in teams of three, with
problems chosen from undergraduate mathematics subjects such as
Calculus, Differential Equations, Analysis, Linear Algebra, etc. We
can help students from different schools join into at-large teams.
As part of the graduate program exhibition, universities are invited
to set up an information table with information about your graduate
program.
We are very pleased to welcome invited MAA luncheon speaker David
Sumner of the University of South Carolina, the 2007 recipient of the
MAA Southeastern Section's Distinguished Teaching Award.
Funding for the conference is provided by Georgia Southern University
and by MAA-NSF grant DMS-0536991 through the MAA Regional
Undergraduate Mathematics Conferences program.
