To: kevja at clemson.edu
Dear Colleagues, dear Students,
this is our second announcement of the sixth
YOUNG MATHEMATICIANS CONFERENCE
at the The Ohio State University
during August 28th - August 30th, 2009 (Fri-Sun)
>>> Applications for participation and support are now OPEN <<<
In order to apply please follow the links (click "Apply" from menu) and
instructions on the conference web site at
http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/conferences/ymc/2009
Please carefully read our information on joint presentations, abstracts,
and reimbursements. The deadline for applications is
Monday August 3rd 4:00pm EST
Undergraduate students involved in REUs and similar programs as well as
accompanying mentors are cordially invited to submit applications. As in
previous years a panel of several faculty will evaluate submitted research
abstracts. About 70 student applicants will be selected for participation
based on these reviews. We expect most decisions on invitations and support
to be completed around August 7th. Invited participants will be asked to
arrange their travel and confirm their participation within 2 to 3 days of
receiving the invitation email from us.
Highlights of this year's conference, besides the student presentations,
include three distinguished plenary lectures by
Laura DeMarco (UIC)
Carolyn Gordon (Dartmouth)
Peter Sarnak (Princeton & I.A.S.).
We will also continue our "Graduate School Orientation" this year with
representatives from various different US graduate programs in mathematics.
This year we expect that representatives from the mathematics graduate
programs of the Univ of Chicago, M.I.T., Univ of Arizona, Univ of Nebraska,
Lehigh Univ, Princeton, Dartmouth, UIC, and Ohio State will participate in
the graduate panel discussion and will be available during social events.
We expect additional representatives from further institutions which were
also invited to participate.
If you are unfamiliar with the YMC series you may want to look through
past events on the general web page at

or read about it in the MAA Online Column on Resources for Undergraduate
Research (scroll to down) at:

We ask you to advertise this conference to your students as well as any
colleagues of yours who are involved in undergraduate research. You can
download a poster of this year's conference in PDF format at
