Subject: REU Reminder from NSF Supported Pathways to Science
To: Chris Cash <ccash at ibparticipation.org>
Dear REU PI, Faculty and Staff Members:
I am writing to remind you, if you haven’t already, to please pass our
information along to your REU students. We have heard from many of
you already this summer---thank you for taking the time to pass our
email and form along to your students in July! As a result, many REU
students filled out our online form and we are able to send them new
funding information for graduate school support and deadlines.
As you know, in our efforts as a National Science Foundation grantee
working with Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate to
promote resources for students pursuing careers in STEM, the Institute
for Broadening Participation provides current information on NSF
opportunities. Students who have one or more REU experiences are
highly likely to pursue a graduate degree. For this reason we
attempt to reach as many of these students as possible. Students can
visit www.agep.us; and www.pathwaystoscience.org for specific
programmatic information on AGEP, GK-12, IGERT (Integrative Graduate
Education Research Traineeships, REU Programs and others.
In addition, if they have not done so already, we suggest that
students who are actively seeking information on graduate school this
year may want to fill out our on-line form at:
http://agep.us/contactprogram.asp, or
http://pathwaystoscience.org/IGERTcontact.asp.
or the student information form (attached)—whichever is most
convenient for them-- and submit it on the web or forward it to our
office by mail or fax. This will enable us to send them information
about graduate school scholarship/fellowship/traineeship
opportunities, research opportunities, and new programs,
opportunities, and remind them about deadlines.
Thank you for your help spreading the word about STEM graduate funding
opportunities. We wish you a happy and productive summer! Please let
us know if we can provide any other information you may find helpful
for your students.
Best regards,
Chris
