Third and final Announcement for the fourth

         Young Mathematicians Conference at
The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio on
               August 4-6, 2006.

      http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/conferences/ymc/2006/

Recall the deadline for applications is this

              Friday, July 14th, 2006

We have now started to screen applications.
Please observe that the deadline is closer than
usual to the conference. It is thus important
that invitees will make their travel arrangements
and complete the confirmation forms as soon as
possible after they receive an invitation.

Note also that we introduced a new presentation format,
the 10 min Summary Talk, since a fair amount of
students in last years' conferences seemed to finish
their talks in considerably less than the allotted time.

In the meantime there are a few minor additions
to the web page (such as Prof Hutchinson's abstract).

Find attached below the previous announcements.

Please forward this information to anyone you know
who is involved in undergraduate research and who may
not yet know about our conference.

     Best wishes, Thomas Kerler

=====================================================================================

This is our first announcement for the fourth

         Young Mathematicians Conference at

The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio on

               August 4-6, 2006.

The conference provides an opportunity for undergraduate students
around the country to present their independent work, and for
  mentors to exchange ideas.

  This year's plenary speakers are

      Arthur Benjamin (Harvey Mudd College)
      Joan Hutchinson (Macalester College)
Peter Shor (Massachusetts Institute for Technology)

All current information about time, location, program,
and financial support of the conference is available at

     http://www.math.osu.edu/conferences/ymc/2006

We hope to open online application for students and mentors
in about a week from now.

Paper posters should have been mailed to you very soon as well.
A pdf version of the poster is attached to this email. Let us
know if you wish to have (additional) posters sent to you.

We very much hope that you will let your students know
about our conference and will encourage them to attend.

Also, we would appreciate it very much if you could forward
this announcement to any of your colleagues or programs
who might be interested. If this announcement has been forwarded
to you by someone else and you would like to be put on our
email list for further announcements please write to us.

  Thank you.

     Sincerely,

       Thomas Kerler

       YMC Organizer 2003-2006

======================================================================================

this is our second announcement for the fourth
         Young Mathematicians Conference at
The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio on
               August 4-6, 2006.

<<<< Applications are finally OPEN! >>>>

The official deadline for application for both students
and mentors is now set to:

            Friday, JULY 14th, 2006

We may start screening applications and make first invitations
earlier than this. Usually, we will also receive applications
for a short while after the deadline. However, we will try to
fill up all presentation slots at this time and may thus not be
able to give full consideration to late applications.

In order to apply go to our web site at
        http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/conferences/ymc/2006
click on "Apply" on the left, and then click on the icons on
the right "Student Online Form" or "Mentor Online Form" as
it applies. Students planning double up for presentation
should carefully read the "Note on Joint Presentations" before
     starting the application.

We sincerely apologize for the delays with the opening of
the applications and the confusion this may have caused.
(we had perpetual troubles with the programmers that were
       supposed to scrip these forms)

Please let any students or mentors who may be interested know
about the conference and the applications!

On our web page you will also find now the titles of the talks
     of the three plenary speakers.

The first announcement is appended again below.

  Thank you and best wishes,

       Thomas Kerler
