Hi all,

There will be two REU colloquium talks this week.  They will be at 2pm 
in M101 on Th and F.  Our speaker will be Frank Garvan.  His title and 
abstract are below.

TALKS: Partition Congruences

ABSTRACT: I plan to give two talks on the topic of Partition Congruences.
I will start with a proof of Jacobi's triple product identity and
give an elementary proof of Ramanujan's partition congruence

(*)  p(5n + 4) = 0  (mod 5).

Then I will give an introduction to the theory of modular forms and
give another proof of (*) using modular forms. This leads naturally
to more general congruences. I will describe Ono's method for
partition congruences. If time permits, I will discuss recent results
on the rank and crank of partitions.
