 Dear colleagues and former participants,

This is our third announcement for the

                 Young Mathematicians Conference 2005
The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH

                       August 12-14, 2005.

The deadline for applications for participation and financial
support for students and mentors is this coming Friday

                       July 15th, 2005

Applications can be made through the web form at

     http://www.math.osu.edu/conferences/ymc/2005/apply.html

  - We have already started screening and accepting early applications.
  - We will continue to receive and screen applications after the announced deadline.
However, applications should be on time in order to be fully considered.
  - Reimbursements are at slightly higher levels and will be more prompt compared
to last year's. Link to "Travel Reimbursement Policies" on the above web page.
  - Mentors and students as well as collaborating students must apply separately.

The 2005 conference will be organized similarly to the ones in previous years:
  * short talks and poster presentations by undergraduate researchers,
  * plenary talks, this year by
Robert Devaney ("The Fractal Geometry of the Mandelbrot Set")
Satyan Devadoss ("Robot Motions and Collisions"), and
Ellen Gethner ("The Art of Computation: M.C. Escher in the 21st Century")
  * plenty of time in order to meet and discuss with other students and mentors
involved in undergraduate research at colleges and universities in the US,
  * free Saturday banquet, free T-shirts, free shuttle rides, free group photo, ...

During the conference we also hope to receive suggestions for our plans to
set up a web site dedicated to undergraduate research, containing various
discussion forums, preprint/article archives, useful links, announcement boards,
e-mail lists, etc. Further topics will be discussed during the Sunday morning
Mentors' breakfast (scheduled now _before_ the student talks).

For more details, questions, or requests, visit the conference web site

         http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/conferences/ymc/2005/

or write an e-mail to the organizers at

         ymc at math.ohio-state.edu

As before, we'd be grateful if you could forward this announcement to anyone
who you know is involved in undergraduate research (students or mentor) and
who you think may not yet have received this information. Find a pdf file of
the conference poster in the attachment. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Tom Dowling,
Thomas Kerler,
Wenzhi Luo.
