Computational Science Education Specialist (A1100424)- EXTENDED!
The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one Computational
Science Education Specialist position available in our
CyberApplications and Communities Directorate, under the
Education Division.
This person will focus on the development and implementation of
computational science education programs, resources and tools for
educators, including higher education faculty, K12 teachers, and
secondary and higher education students.
This position is responsible for the development, adaptation and
application of authentic and/or near-authentic tools, resources
and methods to assist the target audiences in learning to use and
effectively apply computational resources.
This will also include programs and activities that support the
use of high performance computing and communications and
information technologies with a particular focus on applications
in high school and undergraduate settings.
This person must possess strong pedagogical skills to serve as
instructor and curriculum developer to ensure that all resources
created, adapted and deployed is accompanied by high quality
computational resources.
This person should also have experience working with students in
an internship-type position, serving as mentor to high school,
undergraduate and graduate student interns from around the
community and campus.
Required Education, Training & Experience:
* MS in a computational science, math or engineering field
required (PhD preferred). Alternative degree fields will be
considered if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on
nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA
projects and technologies)
* Programming skills, including skills in one or more of the
following: Java, C or C++, PHP, and MySQL
* Scientific content knowledge in biology, physical sciences,
mathematics, and computational science.
* Experience in visualization, web development, and graphics
software use/development.
* Experience working with students in an internship-type position,
serving as mentor to high school, undergraduate and graduate
student interns from around the community and campus.
This is a regular academic professional position at NCSA and is a
12/12, 100%-time appointment (renewed annually) with regular
University benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and
start date will be as soon as possible after the close date of the
search. Interviews may be conducted before the closing date,
although no hiring decisions will be made until after the search
has closed.
