<p class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Mike was the founding force behind the Human Factors Program at UW–Madison and an internationally recognized leader in the field. His research—particularly in workplace design and technology, occupational
safety, and computer ergonomics—made lasting contributions, including shaping key ergonomic guidelines for computer use.<o:p></o:p></span></i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Equally significant was the profound and personal impact Mike had on those around him. Over more than two decades as a member of our department, he set a lasting example through his leadership, collegiality,
and dedication. He was deeply respected by his peers, and he earned the enduring admiration of his students, both in the classroom and in the lab. Many of them have named him the most influential faculty member they encountered in the Department of Industrial
and Systems Engineering.<o:p></o:p></span></i></p>
