The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) at Oklahoma State University (OSU) seeks nominations and applications for the position of Head of the School of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM). The successful candidate must be qualified for appointment as a tenured professor and hold an earned doctorate in industrial engineering or a closely related field. Candidates should have a distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and leadership; a strong record of externally-funded research; interest in advancing education programs with a balance between undergraduate and graduate levels; demonstrated leadership, administrative, and financial management abilities; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and an unwavering drive for the success of students and faculty. Candidates with outstanding qualifications will be considered for an endowed chair position.
Established in 1925, the School of IEM is the third oldest IEM program in the world. The School offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Industrial Engineering and Management; an online MS degree in Engineering and Technology Management (ETM); an interdisciplinary MS degree in Data Science; as well as undergraduate and graduate certificates in Supply Chain and Logistics, and graduate certificates in ETM. The BS program has long been ABET accredited, most recently in 2022. IEM graduate programs are consistently ranked among the Top 25 public universities in industrial/manufacturing systems by U.S. News. The online MS ETM program is ranked #15 among public universities by U.S. News. The School Head is responsible for managing all aspects of the School and its programs, and serves on the College Executive Committee, working with the Dean and other School Heads to set strategic priorities for the entire College.
The successful candidate will have significant resources available to move IEM to the next level with the support of the outstanding faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Housed in 17,000 square feet of newly renovated offices, student lounges, classrooms, and meeting spaces, the School currently comprises 14 tenured or tenure-track faculty, 1 career-track faculty member, 5 staff members, approximately 120 undergraduate students, and 160 graduate students. IEM now has three endowed Chairs and one endowed Professorship, and is in the midst of a highly successful campaign to build major endowments to support growth and new initiatives. Eight of the 14 TT faculty joined the School during the past six years. IEM is supported by a cohesive and collaborative group of faculty members, committed to excellence in scholarship, instruction, and advising. Just in the past five years, IEM faculty have received multiple competitive federal grants from AFOSR, DOD, FDA, NIH, NSF, and ONR (including three NSF CAREER, two AFOSR, and one NIH R01 awards). IEM faculty, staff, students, and alumni have won numerous national and international awards for innovation and leadership. Five of past IEM heads have served as IISE presidents. Our graduates are highly sought after and recruited by top industries and graduate programs, and our doctoral students pursue successful careers in the academia. The School’s alumni are engaged through service on the Industrial Advisory Board and The Cowboy Academy. CEAT continues to grow in both the quality and quantity of its faculty and student enrollment, with its national ranking rising by five places this year.
