The IISE Technical Operations Board (TOB), in partnership with the Council of Industrial Engineering Academic Department Heads (CIEADH), is seeking nominations for the Future Faculty Fellows (3F) Program. The yearlong 3F program is designed to give Industrial & Systems Engineering PhD students the opportunity to explore and prepare for a faculty position in academia. Our goal is for participants of the 3F program to develop an understanding of the academic job market and learn how to market themselves for their first faculty position. These fellows will participate in monthly virtual panels, including a Career panel; Deans and chair panel; Job application and interview process; Writing quality research, teaching and diversity statements; Professional networking & engagement. In addition, they will be paired with a faculty mentor to have regular one-on-one meetings. The program will culminate with a workshop at the IISE Annual Conference.

Senior PhD students (preference will be given to those starting their job search in Fall 2026) who are IISE members are eligible to be nominated for this program by their faculty advisors or department head/chair. We will select a cohort of approximately 15-20 participants to begin in October 2025.
If you are an advisor of a senior PhD student or an ISE department head/chair, please nominate your PhD students for this 3F program.  Nominated students must fill out the form by September 8, 2025. This program will prepare PhD students to excel in the academic job market. The unique networking opportunities will also help bolster their future careers as they become tomorrow's IISE leaders.

To be eligible for the 3F program, a nominee must:

  *   Personal Statement (max of 1 page) that discusses your motivation for pursuing a career in academia.
  *   CV (max of 5 pages)

Given the requirements that the student must be an IISE member and nominated by a faculty advisor or department head/chair, the form asks for the student's IISE member number. Further, the student must certify that they are being nominated by a faculty member, and the faculty member's name, title, and email address are required on this form, but no other information is needed from the faculty member at this time.

The selection committee aims to select a diverse group of Fellows. Selections will consider a student's enthusiasm for an academic career, publication record, honors and awards received, leadership and volunteer activities, teaching and work experience, and cohort diversity. Volunteers Needed for Mentors: The 3F program will need ~20 faculty mentors who will be paired with the Student Fellows. If you are a current or past department head/chair or a senior ISE faculty, please strongly consider volunteering in this program. Investing in these PhD students will help create the next generation of well-prepared and motivated academic faculty to advance and lead the growth of the ISE profession and IISE. As a mentor you are expected to commit 1 hour/month with your Fellow. Please email a co-chair by September 13, 2025 if you are interested in serving as a mentor.
