Hello industrial engineering colleagues,
I am very pleased to announce that the new INFORMS Journal on Computing Quantum Computing area is now implemented and open for business. I believe this is an exciting beginning for the future of quantum computing within our research community. The inaugural area editor is Giacomo Nannicini of University of Southern California. Joining him, as associate editors, of the new area are:
Carleton Coffrin Los Alamos National Laboratory
Rebekah Herrman University of Tennessee
Sander Gribling University of Tilburg
Below is the description of the area. I invite you to spread the word among your networks about this new opportunity, which follows on the very successful QC special issue we published at the beginning of the year in IJOC (https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpubsonline.informs.org%2Ftoc%2Fijoc%2F37%2F1&data=05%7C02%7Ciefac.list%40mailhost.ces.clemson.edu%7Cef1f800977c5423c688108ddb962ea6c%7C0c9bf8f6ccad4b87818d49026938aa97%7C0%7C0%7C638870556709821246%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=rgqNMey4tEVQ4nhTvXD7bOnch20t8q7jakgCJBxBVAM%3D&reserved=0).
The Quantum Computing Area publishes works at the intersection of quantum computing (QC) and operations research (OR). The rapid development of quantum technologies benefits from the application of traditional OR techniques in different phases of chip design and operation; examples are uncertainty quantification, simulation, optimization, modeling. At the same time, algorithmic techniques in these and other areas could benefit from the different computational paradigm, which leads to provable speedups under certain conditions. All high-quality research works that study the use of OR techniques for problems arising in the design and operation of quantum computers, and those that study the development of OR techniques that benefit from the QC paradigm (e.g., quantum algorithms for optimization, Monte Carlo simulation, game theory, learning and analytics), will be considered for publication in this area of the INFORMS Journal on Computing. This includes theoretical, computational, and experimental work. Articles related to quantum information theory or quantum computing that have no connection to OR are not considered to be within the scope of the journal.
Best regards, Alice Smith, Editor in Chief, INFORMS Journal on Computing
