The Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) Department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) has three tenure-track positions and one research faculty position to fill.

  *   Two Assistant Professor positions, effective on August 1, 2026, are in the general areas of Industrial and Systems Engineering.   *   One Assistant Professor position, effective on August 1, 2026,  is part of the Resilient Agriculture and Forestry Systems, a cluster hire at UTK. The position will be 100% in the ISE department and may have a joint appointment with the UT Institute for Agriculture.   *   A Research Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in the area of optimization for improving affordability, productivity, energy efficiency, and resilience in building construction. The ISE Department at UTK currently has 13 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and an enrollment of more than 560 students, including 268 UG, 172 MS, and 122 Doctoral students. The Department will increase its faculty size to 25 by 2026, including 16 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and nine full-time teaching or research faculty members. Departmental strengths include optimization, data analytics, machine learning, quantum computing, human factors, reliability and maintainability, and operational excellence, and their applications in manufacturing, logistics and transportation, supply chain, energy systems, sustainability, and healthcare systems. The annual externally funded research expenditure exceeded $ 5.4 million in FY2025. The department was ranked 26th among all public institutions in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate School Rankings.
